Dexter star Courtney Ford files for divorce from husband Brandon Routh after 17 years of marriage

Courtney Ford has filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Routh after seventeen years of marriage.

On Wednesday, the 46-year-old Dexter actress filed the paperwork citing “irreconcilable differences” for the reason for their divorce, per TMZ.

She doesn’t have an official divorce date from the Superman Returns star, 45, noted in her paperwork, according to the outlet.

The couple married in 2007 and have been together for more than twenty years.

According to the divorce filing, Ford is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their 11-year-old son Leo James — whom they welcomed together in 2012.

She is also asking for spousal support from Routh and has also asked the court to deny him any spousal support.

The estranged couple has been married for 17 years and together for a total of almost 22 years.

They dated for three years and were engaged for one year before tying the knot at El Capitan Ranch in Santa Barbara in November 2007.

Routh is best known for his role as Superman in the 2006 film version of Superman Returns, in which he co-starred with Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey.

He later reprized the role as part of the Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths TV event.

Meanwhile, Ford has acting credits in notable TV shows such as Dexter, True Blood, Parenthood and Supernatural.

The now estranged couple also worked together on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but both left the series after season five.

Routh starred on the show from its debut season in 2016 until 2022, while Ford joined in season three.

According to Deadline, their departure from the series stemmed from a creative decision to wrap up Ray Palmer and Atom’s storyline with Nora Darhk.

Routh and Ford’s characters reflect real life and are romantically linked in the show.

Routh’s character first appeared on screen in season three of Arrow and also appeared in The Flash.

When the beloved character was written off in season five, both he and the fans were blindsided.

In the last few episodes where Ray and Nora appear, the couple decided to get married and left the Waverider behind to start the next chapter of their lives.

Speaking to TV Insider, Routh expressed his and Ford’s feelings on their departure.

“Neither of us decided to go,” he admitted. ‘That’s it [showrunner] Phil Klemmer who decided it was time to go.

‘Yes. Before the season started, I got a call that that was the situation… [It] It was a shock to us because I always had open conversations with the producers about the whole experience,” he continued.

‘This happened to me without communication. So that was a challenge.’

Routh later returned to the Arrowverse for his epic crossover event featuring three iterations of Superman.

He donned his costume as his 2006 Man of Steel character from Superman Returns and appeared alongside that of Tom Wellington from Smallville and that of Tyler Hoechlin from Arrowverse’s Superman.
