Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed legislation strengthening parents’ rights to know when schools are changing their child’s health care or preparing to teach classes about sex, sexuality or gender
COLUMBUS, Ohio– Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a law Wednesday that strengthens parents’ rights to know when schools are changing their child’s health care or preparing to present lessons on “sexual content,” as conservatives nationwide increasingly take public criticize schools as too liberal in this area.
Parents can opt out of health care or tuition under what’s called the Parents’ Bill of Rights.
A separate provision of the Republican-backed bill would require districts to allow students to leave school during the day for periods of religious instruction.
The signing comes as conservatives nationwide increasingly criticize public schools as too liberal and try to stifle discussion of current issues, especially around gender identity.
Opponents blasted the Ohio bill for forcing schools to “exclude” LGBTQ+ students by revealing their private health care conversations with their parents.
