Devin Haney passed with flying colors in his 140-pound division debut on Saturday, defeating Regis Prograis for the WBC super lightweight title via unanimous decision in front of his hometown of San Francisco, California.

Haney defeated Prograis 120-107 on all three scorecards, including a 10-8 round thanks to a knockdown in the third.

“I went in here and hit him with a sharp right hand,” Haney said. “I played on his tendency to lean forward.”

After scoring his first knockdown in eight fights, Haney also stunned Prograis in the sixth and ninth rounds but remained disciplined, aware of his opponent's counterpunching ability. Haney said his father and head coach Bill Haney urged him to stick to the game plan instead of chasing the finish.

“I wanted to go there and I know I hurt him,” Haney explained. “My dad said stay focused and stick to the game plan.”

With the dominant win, Haney improves his undefeated record to 31-0.

Haney landed 35 percent of his punches and hit Prograis on 129 of 367 attempts. On the other hand, Prograis only landed 10 percent of his punches. The former champion landed 36 of the 363 points thrown, which is the fewest landed by any fighter in a 12-round fight.

“That's damn good,” Prograis said of Haney. “He was better than I thought.”

Prograis went on to complement Haney's speed and power after admitting he underestimated them before the fight. As for his future, Prograis said he will work towards becoming a three-time world champion after enjoying the holidays with his loved ones.

“His power surprised me, I thought he was a soft puncher,” Prograis added.

After successfully announcing himself among the super lightweight ranks, Haney and his team have yet to decide whether to defend the title or move up the weight class.

“We have a lot of options, we talked about going to 147,” Haney said. “We're going to talk to the team and see what's next.

'I felt so much stronger in this camp, I felt great. 140, you have a new king.'

Haney's impressive run continues after defeating Vasiliy Lomachenko in May and back-to-back victories over George Kambosos Jr. in 2022.

Promoter Eddie Hearn mentioned a few potential matchups for Haney, including Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis and Theofimo Lopez.
