- The pair meet in the ring for a super lightweight title showdown in Las Vegas
- Haney and Garcia previously saw talks fall apart due to an argument in January
The WBC super lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia has been officially confirmed for April 20, after months of speculation.
Reports emerged on Friday that Haney will put his title on the line against Garcia in their first-ever professional meeting, in a blockbuster fight in Las Vegas.
Shortly after the reports came to light, both fighters took to social media to seemingly confirm the official date for the fight.
Garcia, who defeated Oscar Duarte in his last outing in December, posted a series of photos on X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the fight.
He wrote: ‘April 20 – Game 7 – Back In Blood’. One of the images brought to light the fact that Garcia and Haney have a 3-3 amateur record against each other – suggesting their meeting will be ‘Game 7’ in two months.

Meanwhile, rival Haney wrote: ‘MashAllah settle this once and for all.. April 20th. #HaneyGarcia 32-0 InshaAllah’.
News reporter Michael Benson also confirmed the fight on social media, stating that it will take place in Las Vegas.
Haney (31-0, 15 KO) will make his first defense of his WBC super lightweight title since dethroning Regis Prograis in December when he met Garcia in the ring in late April.
Haney defeated Prograis 120-107 on all three scorecards, including a 10-8 round thanks to a knockdown in the third.
“I went in here and hit him with a sharp right hand,” Haney said at the time. “I played on his tendency to lean forward.”
Talks have been on and off since December, but appeared to have ended when Garcia attempted to pursue a fight with Rolando Romero, before Romero decided to fight Isaac Cruz instead.
A showdown in April marks an important moment in both fighters’ careers as they prepare for their first meeting in a professional setting.

Meanwhile, Garcia won via knockout in his final in-ring appearance against Oscar Duarte
Haney and Garcia fought six times in the amateurs, each sharing three wins before turning professional and embarking on title quests.
The meeting will end the bad blood between the pair after they previously clashed on social media in early January.
Haney has an undefeated record of 31 wins, 15 of which were by knockout, but faces one of his toughest tests yet in Garcia.
Meanwhile, the challenger has lost just once in his professional career after being knocked out by Gervonta Davis last year.
