Desperation Road trailer finds a young woman on the run putting her trust in an ex-con in the thriller starring Mel Gibson and Garrett Hedlund

A young woman on the run has no choice but to trust an ex-con and his family in the new Desperation Road trailer.

In the thriller, Garrett Hedlund plays ex-con Russell Gaines, with Willa Fitzgerald playing Maben’s fugitive wife, plus Mel Gibson playing Russell’s father – with the actor making headlines for starring in the new John Wick series The Continental.

The film was directed by Nadine Crocker (Continue) from a script by Michael Farris Smith, which he adapted from his own 2017 novel of the same name.

The trailer opens with Maben returning to her motel room, when a cop asks her what she’s doing.

“When I went back to my room, I didn’t do anything,” she says, before the cop grabs her violently and says, “You guys never do that.”

He forces her into his squad car before two gunshots ring out in the middle of the night.

Meanwhile, on the bus back home, Russell is met by Ryan Hurst’s character, arriving home to his father (Mel Gibson) and mother (Kat Foster).

“What happened to your face?” Russell’s father Mitchell asks, while Russell replies, “Just a little parting gift from the boys.”

We see footage of Hurst’s character and another beating him badly, as Hurst tells him when he’s down, “They released you early.” You’re not out of my reach, boy.’

Later that night, over a drink, Mitchell says to his son, “You’re too hard on yourself. We can be forgiven.’

Russell is driving when he is pulled over by a cop (Woody McClain), who happens to be an old friend.

The cop tells Russell, “It’s no use keeping it a secret. One of us was shot with his own gun… which we “seem to be able to find.”

That shot cuts straight to Maben who runs holding the gun she used to kill the cop.

Maben is seen hugging her young daughter and telling them to ‘stay together’.

Russell is outside in his truck enjoying a cigarette when Maben points the gun at him and tells him to get in the truck and drive.

Before long, Russell gets the gun from her and says he’ll return it to her if she tells him who it belongs to.

She tells him over a campfire that she shot the cop, as he tells her she can hide in a house on his family’s property, while Mitchell tells Russell, “I’ve got your back.”

The trailer ends with some dramatic shots, as Russell tells Maben, “It looks like you and I are connected by some sort of invisible rope.”

“Life is a whirlwind. We’re all caught up in it,” Mitchell says as the trailer comes to a close.
