Desperate search for missing Texas cheerleader Ava Phillips after she vanished from school

Authorities in Texas have launched a manhunt for a teenage cheerleader who has been missing since yesterday. Her mother suspects the teen’s “emotionally abusive” boyfriend is involved.

Ava Phillips, 17, was last seen leaving Angleton High School and getting into a white Toyota Corolla around 10 a.m. after missing her fourth-period class.

The teen’s mother, Kailey Perez, raised the alarm after her car was found in the school parking lot with her phone, keys and backpack inside.

Perez also told Angleton Police Sergeant Cory Budnick that Ava may be with her boyfriend and en route to Austin, nearly 200 miles away.

She later revealed to Click2Houston that the young teen had recently “tried to distance herself from a boy who had emotionally abused her.”

Perez also noted that she suspects he knows her daughter’s current whereabouts, but he has refused to cooperate with the family or police.

It remains unclear whether the boyfriend is the same boy Perez said emotionally abused her daughter. Neither has been identified by officials.

“She told me she was coming home, but she hasn’t. I just want her to get home safe. She sounds very scared.

“Her voice is shaking really bad. I don’t think she’s in control. I think someone is telling her what to say.

“She’s a beautiful, sweet girl who would never run away,” the distraught mother said said.
