Designer fashion label Erdem has joined Burberry and Mulberry in backing a Mail campaign to get rid of a controversial tourist tax for shoppers.

Philippa Nixon, CEO of the London fashion house, said the tax cut would encourage tourists to shop in the UK rather than elsewhere in Europe.

Erdem’s floral dresses have been worn by the Princess of Wales and celebrities, including Kylie Minogue.

Nixon told The Mail on Sunday: “London is the capital of creative expression and we should encourage the world to visit.”

Brexit led then Chancellor Rishi Sunak to scrap a 20 percent VAT refund for foreign buyers in 2021.

Nixon said the move had “truly catastrophic consequences for brands big and small.”

Marks & Spencer and Harrods are among 150 companies to sign a letter to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt organized by hotelier Sir Rocco Forte.

The Mail’s Scrap The Tourist Tax campaign was also supported by a cross-party group of MPs.
