DeSantis will FIRE FBI Chief Christoper Wray if President-elect criticizes DoJ for indicting Trump

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized the indictment against rival Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, saying double standards were applied when issuing charges.

DeSantis also pledged to fire FBI chief Christopher Wray as one of his first acts of presidents if elected, while suggesting that if Trump had been charged with crimes, Hillary Clinton should have been charged as well.

“With me, you know, you have a new FBI director on day one. We clear all these agencies on day one. We’re having a major overhaul.

“I think there should be one standard of justice in this country,” DeSantis said while making remarks at a party convention in Greensboro, North Carolina.

He condemned what he called a “weaponization” of government agencies, though he was careful not to mention Trump by name in his speech.

Wray was nominated for the position by former President Donald Trump in 2017, but he has been criticized by Republican lawmakers for being overly political during his tenure.

“Hillary had the e-mails,” DeSantis said. “Is there a different standard for a Democratic secretary of state than for a former Republican president?”

Hillary Clinton, who served as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama, lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

During the campaign, she was questioned about her handling of classified material after it was revealed that she had used a private email server at her home for some of her correspondence.

A US State Department investigation found no evidence of deliberate mishandling of classified information by Department employees, and the FBI said Clinton had been “negligent” but recommended no criminal charges.

The rift between the GOP and FBI Director Wray first began during the Russia investigation of then-President Trump and has only widened during the FBI’s extensive criminal investigation into the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol, which some Republicans consider exaggerated. diligent and politicized.

Touching on Trump’s new criminal charges, DeSantis suggested he believed it was politically motivated attendees who warned those in attendance that Washington was full of bureaucrats who lacked responsibility and abused their power.

Prosecutors earlier today unsealed a 37 count indictment against Trump, accusing the former president of risking some of the country’s most sensitive security secrets after leaving office in 2021.

Trump is charged with unauthorized retention of classified documents and conspiracy to obstruct justice, according to publicly released federal court documents.

Republicans have claimed that the investigation into Trump seeking to oust Democratic President Joe Biden from the White House in 2024 is politically biased.

Biden and top officials have repeatedly said the Justice Department acts independently.

“There must be one standard of justice in this country. Let’s enforce it on everyone and make sure we all know the rules,” DeSantis said.

“You can’t have one faction of society arming the power of the state against factions it doesn’t like. And that’s what we’ve seen,” said DeSantis, who is trailing Trump in polls for the Republican nomination.

Trump’s latest indictment theoretically allows DeSantis to level criticism that the runaway frontrunner is unfit for office.

But he risks alienating Trump’s loyal base, whose support has only grown since the Manhattan indictment.

Discussing Trump's recent criminal charges, but not naming him, DeSantis suggested he believed they were politically motivated.

As a result, many rivals have sided with Trump, perhaps hoping to keep their powder dry until he is eventually taken out of the running by further indictments expected in the coming months.

Trump is under federal investigation for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riot, and media reports suggest racketeering and conspiracy charges in Georgia will be dropped in August due to the tycoon’s campaign to overturn the election there to undo.

DeSantis, who has run a distant second poll for Trump, has exercised restraint in comments about his rival’s legal woes, but the rhetorical hand grenades lobbed between the camps have become more aggressive in recent weeks.

In addition to DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence and former President Donald Trump will both address delegates at the state convention in Greensboro later Saturday.
