Dermot O’Leary wins coveted Great Celebrity Bake Off Stand Up to Cancer Star Baker apron after impressing with biscuit of his famous lookalike
Dermot O’Leary received the Star Baker apron in The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer on Sunday.
The television presenter, 50, was pleased to have impressed judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
He and fellow celebrity contestants Spice Girl Mel B, 48, comedian Fern Brady, 37, and radio host Greg James, 38, were tasked with creating ice cream sandwiches in the Signature category, a family classic in the tech bin and a showstopper where they created their celebrity lookalike in cookie form.
After winning the Stand Up To Cancer Star Baker apron, Dermot said: ‘I’m thrilled. I really thought Fern would win as she has knocked it out of the park in recent weeks.
“I’m going to have it framed!”

At the Signature Bake, the celebrities each baked eight ice cream sandwiches, with the taste and decoration meaning something special for each of the bakers.
Mel B made some Caribbean herb ice cream sandwiches in honor of her late father, who was from the island of Nevis.
She used his favorite rum to flavor the rolls, but ran into trouble from the start when she failed to accurately measure her ingredients and instead guessed the proportions.
Melanie’s father Martin died in March 2017 after a battle with myeloma cancer.
Speaking about her late father, Mel said: ‘My father unfortunately passed away from cancer so this is a very important thing for me to do. It’s a terrible disease, so this is my way of giving something back to him.’
Fern made Swedish-style knotted rolls that she seasoned with cardamom.
Dermot chose to make forest ice cream sandwiches, with his baking inspired by his childhood.
He said he was a “child of the 80s” and that “there were berries everywhere.”

But Greg was criticized for the texture of his custard, with judge Paul saying it would bounce off the floor if he dropped it.
The bakers were then instructed to make a chocolate and raspberry roulade with meringue and a dollop of chantilly cream.
Greg seemed to be having a hard time when he started the first step: making the flourless sponge.
He joked, “What I really need is for my mom to be here.”

Host Alison Hammond was impressed with Mel B’s skills as she achieved the perfect texture of the cream.
Mel was seen holding the bowl of cream above her head, keeping the cream firmly in place.
Alison said: ‘I think this is quite amazing. You’ve inspired a whole generation of women,” to which Mel joked, “Not to cook!”
Paul said of all the finished products, “We have all the elements, but not necessarily in the right order.”
Of Mel’s roulade, he said: ‘I’m not sure what happened to this. It looks like a slipper. It is a mess. It’s just a little thing!’
Dame Prue Leith and Paul decided that Greg came fourth for his roulade, saying: ‘It’s just not the right shape, but it tasted good.’
Mel came third while Dermot came second, with Dame Prue saying of Dermot: ‘This is a really good roulade but it’s not the right shape.’
Fern came out on top in the chocolate roulade round, prompting her to say: “I’m quite surprised. It’s the first time I’ve ever made one.’

Greg admitted he was a bit rushed to finish at the end, joking: “It turns out it takes more than three hours to make Clare Balding’s face.”
Dame Prue told Fern about her Boy George biscuit: ‘It tastes delicious. There is a lot of ginger in it, but it is very hard and thick. But it’s lovely, well done.’
Of Dermot’s pastry cream biscuit from James Norton, she said: ‘The biscuit is a little soft, it should have been in the oven a little longer.’
While Paul said, “The bottom is a little thick. It could have been in the oven a little longer. It tastes very good.’
