Dermatologist weighs in on 11-year-old Penelope Disick’s ‘complicated’ 10-STEP beauty routine – revealing how $500 regimen is could cause severe DAMAGE to her skin

A dermatologist has weighed in on Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick's daughter Penelope's expensive and over-the-top beauty routine after it went viral.

In the video, which was posted in January but has since resurfaced online, Penelope uses a range of skin care products from Drunk Elephant and Honest Beauty – including a $72 moisturizer and a $68 facial oil. But is it effective?

According to Scottsdale, an Arizona-based board-certified dermatologist Dr. Brooke Jeffyan expert in skin care for teens and founder of the skin care brand Generation Alpha In parenthesesit's overkill, especially for an 11 year old.

Dr. Jeffy explained that Penelope doesn't need such an expensive, intensive beauty routine, and in fact it can be incredibly damaging.

The video quickly went viral and was viewed more than two million times, with many people sharing their own thoughts on the young Kardashian daughter's skincare and beauty routine.

“I just died a little bit,” the dermatologist, who regularly treats young patients, said at the beginning of the video.

“Why does this cute 11-year-old need makeup and a skincare routine more complicated than mine?”

The hundreds of young patients of Dr. Jeffy with skin issues caused by TikTok trends and unnecessary multi-step skincare regimens provided the impetus to launch BTWN, an educational, two-step, simplified skincare line for kids, tweens and teens.

Dr. Jeffy captioned the video, “Tween skin deserves gentle care, not an expensive, elaborate skincare routine!”

“As a mother and skin, I'm here to spill the tea: Harsh chemicals are not meant for the intervening years,” the doctor continued.

She said: 'Drunk Elephant products may be great for adults, but they certainly aren't for children!' before explaining, “This skincare line is packed with powerful ingredients intended for adults, not young skin.”

In Penelope's original video, she showed off her extensive skincare routine, including Drunk Elephant's bronzing drops ($38), Honest Beauty moisturizer ($30), Drunk Elephant's Intensive Hydration Serum ($55), Drunk Elephant's Whipped Cream ($72 ) and Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil ($68).

The trendy tween then applied Kosas concealer ($30) under her eyes with a pink beauty blender.

Penelope then used another favorite TikTok product, Charlotte Tilbury's Bronzing Wand ($42) to contour her cheekbones, forehead and nose, before using an eyelash curler, which appeared to be from Shiseido ($24), and brushing up her brows.

The elementary school student finishes her face with Dior blush ($40), a little more contour, and the Dior lip glow oil ($40).

“North West is doing the same thing – it's honestly so sad,” one commenter wrote, referring to Penelope's cousin, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's 10-year-old daughter

Commenters asked why it was a bad thing that she had a beauty routine, while others explained that it could be quite damaging to her young, sensitive skin

Why is makeup always bad? Makeup is supposed to be for fun!' one follower said, while another commenter replied: 'The ingredients are for mature skin… they are powerful products and should not be used on [children’s] faces', citing the inclusion of the powerful anti-aging ingredient retinol as an example.

One mother agreed: 'Thank you! My daughter is 11 and has beautiful skin and only uses a sensitive moisturizer. None of that is necessary at such a young age.'

One commenter pointed out that Penelope isn't the only member of the Kardashian family who uses an expensive, extensive skincare routine.

“North West is doing the same thing too – it's honestly so sad,” they wrote, referring to her cousin, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West's 10-year-old daughter.

“I agree she doesn't need it, but I'm sure she looks out for and imitates her mother and family,” another wrote.

Dr. Jeffy explained that she “tells all moms NOT to buy Drunk Elephant before their teens” because “the products are not designed for young skin.”

Moms in the comments agreed that the ingredient list of Drunk Elephant products is too long for tweens

Some people celebrated her use of skin care at such a young age, with one person writing: 'I disagree – the sooner you start skin care the better it is for you. I started skin care at age 10, I'm 30 and I always get mistaken for 23.”

The dermatologist then made a video clarifying why Drunk Elephant doesn't work for tweens.

Dr. Jeffy explained that she “tells all moms NOT to buy Drunk Elephant before their teens” because “the products are not designed for young skin.”

“Children who use highly active products may develop chemical burns and premature acne,” the dermatologist warned in her post.

Mums in the comments agreed, with one saying: 'The drunken elephant kiosk lady wouldn't sell it to my daughter because she said it's not for her skin type', and another agreeing: 'This is #1 on my 10 year old's list and when I read the ingredients I shook my head!'

One person joked, “Wait, I can't even afford Drunk Elephant.”

In another viral TikTok, Dr. doubled down. Jeffy: 'When it comes to younger skin, Drunk Elephant may not be the right choice. Aggressive exfoliants and early retinol? Not the essence.'
