Board-certified dermatologist Dr. New York-based Idriss revealed in a new TikTok video how to get clear skin by washing your face a certain way
In the clip, she discussed three different skin cleansing tips and said they can help you get clear skin
“Number one, don't skip washing your face at night,” Dr. Idriss began. “Because you've got all this shit on your face, and you've been walking around all day and your face got hit.”
“If you don't treat your face with the love and respect it deserves, no one will,” she continued, likening neglecting skin care to buying an Aston Martin and not taking it to a service.
“That's literally what you're doing by not washing your face at night,” the board-certified dermatologist warned.
Next on the list of tips was to make sure you actually wash your face properly at night.
“Number two, if you're going to take the time and make the effort to actually wash your face at night, do it right,” Dr. advised. Idriss. “Don't just skimp on the way you do it.”
“If you wear makeup and you know you have a cleanser that completely removes your makeup, then that's fine, but chances are you haven't met that cleanser yet because I still have that cleanser.” not met.'
She advised viewers to use micellar water or an oil-based makeup remover to remove makeup, followed by a cleanser.
To ensure that all of your makeup has been properly removed from your face, Dr. Idriss recommends trying something called “the white towel test.”
The first tip that Dr. Idriss offered was to make sure you don't skip washing your face at night
“If you don't treat your face with the love and respect it deserves, no one will,” she continued, likening neglecting skin care to buying an Aston Martin and not taking it to a service.
She also said it was important to cleanse the face properly and recommended something called the “white towel test.”
“After you wash, grab a clean, white towel, and if it's clean, you know you did a good job,” she explained.
And last but not least, Dr. Idriss avoids cleansing your face in the morning when you wake up.
“Before you guys hit me up in the comments section, I'm not saying you shouldn't cleanse your face with water in the morning,” the dermatologist explained.
“But you don't need to use a cleanser in the morning after cleansing your face in the evening.”
Dr. Idriss pointed out that cleansing in the morning may be “over-stripping” your skin of its natural oils.
“There are of course exceptions to this rule, but for most people this works fine,” she said.
It's a rule she says her patients have enjoyed.
“And many of my own patients have told me that this particular tip has been a game-changer for their skin when they skip the AM cleanser,” the dermatologist said.
As a final tip, she warned people not to wash their face in the morning when they wake up
In the comments section of the video, many users commented on her tips and their thoughts on them
“So don't neglect your face, your moneymaker, but don't wash it at night,” she concluded.
In the comments section of her post, many users claimed that this practice has helped their skin.
'Skipping the AM cleanser is definitely a game changer!! Love,” one person wrote.
Another agreed: 'Since double cleansing at night and just washing my face with water in the morning, my skin has improved a lot.'
'Yes Yes! I thought I had super oily skin because I cleansed too much! I finally stopped cleansing it in the morning and my skin is so much healthier,” someone else wrote.
Others, on the other hand, seemed a little skeptical about the change in routine.
“My oily skin needs a cleansing in the morning, otherwise sunscreen turns it into a slippery, oily mess,” one user admitted.
Another said: 'I'm extremely oily though. In the morning I look like melted butter, so I always feel like I need to wash my face.”
