A certified dermatologist has revealed her three favorite tricks for hair growth, one of which involves a shampoo you can buy at most drugstores.

The tips were shared by Texas-based dermatologist Dr. Jean Charles in a new video posted on TikTok last month.

According to Cleveland ClinicHereditary baldness is the most common form of hair loss, affecting approximately 80 million people in the United States.

Hair loss can have a number of causes, but the most common include stress, hormonal changes and even vitamin deficiencies, the report said.

But fear not, because Dr. Charles has some tips to promote hair growth.

The first method uses a micro-needling roller in combination with topically applied Minoxodil, a popular over-the-counter regrowth medication.

These micro-needling rollers are often marketed for facials. Dr. Charles doesn’t recommend them, but says they are good for people with thinning hairlines.

“You apply it a few times to the hairline where the hair is thinning and then apply Minoxodil for better penetration,” she explains.

You may also choose to use your prescribed Tretinoin cream. This cream is often applied to the skin to reduce acne, fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

“You can apply your prescribed retinoid to the hairline before applying Minoxodil, but this combination may cause more irritation as Minoxodil and tretinoin can be irritating on their own,” the dermatologist admitted.

And finally, if you suffer from ‘recurrent hair loss’, or hair loss from the scalp, you can use Minoxodil in combination with a shampoo containing ketoconazole.

These are usually anti-dandruff shampoos, such as Nizoral or Head and Shoulders.

“Ketoconazole actually has an anti-androgenic effect and therefore helps against androgenic forms of hair loss, as seen in the photos above,” she said.

“Here’s how you use it: you apply it to your scalp, leave it on for three to five minutes, and then rinse it out,” Dr. Charles continues.

Then simply use your normal shampoo and conditioner.

The dermatologist advised that you should do this about two to three times a week.

This is not the first time that a dermatologist has addressed the problem of hair loss.

Mississippi resident Dr. Lindsey Zubritsky previously offered advice on how many hair strands you can lose before it indicates there’s a problem.

In the clip, Dr. Zubritsky shows a numbered chart that shows a scale for hair loss and what it actually looks like.

“Did you know that it’s actually normal to lose between 100 and 200 hairs every day?” she explained.
