EL MIRAGE, California — Officers found five dead in a Southern California desert community Tuesday evening, authorities said.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies were called to an area off Highway 395 in El Mirage about 8:15 p.m. for a welfare check and found the bodies, sheriff’s spokesperson Mara Rodriguez said in an email. Members of the department’s specialized investigations unit responded to conduct the investigation.
El Mirage is located about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
Authorities have not released details about how and when the people died or who they were.
Footage from the scene shows yellow tape stretched across a dirt road with police vehicles in the distance.
