Denzel Washington’s British accent has fans all saying the same thing
Fans are all saying the same thing about a resurfaced clip of Denzel Washington with an English accent in one of his early films.
Over a long and dazzling career, Denzel has established himself as one of the most respected actors of his time, showered with praise and accolades.
The 69-year-old has two Oscars to his name, as well as a Tony Award, two Golden Globes and the Presidential Medal Of Freedom.
Two years ago, the New York Times called him the greatest actor of the 21st century, ahead of names like Isabelle Huppert, Daniel Day-Lewis and Viola Davis.
Now, however, he’s having a very different reaction to old footage of him trying to do an English accent in the 1988 film For Queen And Country.
As the video circulated online, Denzel was even brought to the attention of viewers who otherwise admire him — and one particular observation came up again and again.

Fans joked that his alleged English accent clashed with those of several other Commonwealth countries such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Queen And Country stars Denzel as a Londoner struggling to adjust to civilian life after fighting in the Falklands War.
When the film premiered at Cannes, Denzel had just earned an Oscar nod for playing South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko in the 1987 drama Cry Freedom.
In 1989, Denzel won his first Academy Award for his role in Glory as a former slave who becomes a Union soldier in the American Civil War.
However, For Queen And Country, which came between those two films, was a bomb at the box office and a disappointment to the critics.
The film hit brickbats again this week when an old clip of it was circulated on social media, showing Denzel’s attack on an English accent.
One fan posted the video to X, formerly Twitter, and wrote: “Denzel Washington once tried to speak with a British accent in a movie and never tried again.”
The post was then uploaded to Instagram, where viewers responded hilariously and flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts.

‘Why do I hear Australian through it? Uncle was fighting for his life,” one joked while another wrote, “I can’t even watch this scene.”
“I heard English, American, Australian and South African accents all mixed together in a few sentences,” a third commented. ‘I thought the Scots and Irish would come next. If the dialogue had continued, this might have happened.”
“He’s from London, South Africa and New South Wales at the same time,” one Instagram user joked, while another said: “Denzel only has one voice and it’s his… Just like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. ..’
“He goes from cockney to Aussie to Kiwi,” one commenter noted while another vamped: “Every time I see this clip… I want to drape a cloth over Denzel’s two Oscars… they don’t need to see their dad acting like this .’
“I love Denzel and his acting range but this proved that EVERYONE has limitations, this should never have seen the light of day,” one fan wrote.
“Incredible actor, terrible at accents,” another admirer of his commented, adding, “I just know the dialogue coach punched the air.”
