Democrats give eyeroll worthy reason for why Biden was bumped from primetime as Kamala Harris is poised to upstage her own convention

Democrats gave a tearful explanation for why President Joe Biden was not on TV on Monday because his speech at the Democratic National Convention on the East Coast was scheduled to last past midnight.

There was too much clapping.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison offered that explanation during an appearance on CBS Mornings Tuesday morning.

“And one of the reasons we started a little later is because everyone got applause for what they said,” Harrison said.

Tuesday night brings more scheduling headaches, as the Democratic ticket — Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — hold an evening rally in nearby Milwaukee, Wisconsin — hoping to energize supporters in a key swing state.

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, could overshadow her own convention, as she and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz are scheduled to hold a rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that will be broadcast to the United Center in Chicago, where the DNC is taking place.

That gathering, taking place at the Fiserv Forum — the same venue where former President Donald Trump and Republicans held their convention just weeks earlier — could overshadow the Democratic convention.

Harris and Walz are expected to speak around 8 p.m. CDT during Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention.

Organizers said Harris’ speech will be broadcast from the United Center, where the Chicago rally is taking place.

This means that planning at locations in two cities must be perfect.

Monday night’s DNC programming was delayed so much that several acts had to be canceled, including a musical performance by legendary singer-songwriter James Taylor.

Taylor was scheduled to sing You’ve Got a Friend, which he had practiced earlier Monday during a dress rehearsal in the convention hall.

Michael Tyler, communications director for Harris-Walz, said Democrats are “leaving nothing to chance” and that is why the nominee is holding the rally in Milwaukee.

She will be there to “motivate Wisconsin voters in the place that Donald Trump called a ‘horrible city,'” Tyler also said.

In June, Trump reportedly called Milwaukee “terrible” during a private meeting with Republican members of Congress ahead of his convention.

Several lawmakers who aligned themselves with MAGA argued that the GOP candidate was referring to crime and voter fraud and that he was not using the word as a general description of the key swing state city.

The event could also irritate Trump if Harris manages to draw a large crowd.

Tyler didn’t expect she would be able to get more people in the same location than Trump did at the RNC.

“I don’t know what the actual capacity is, but I think what you’ve seen over the last few weeks, since the vice president started this campaign, is a wave of enthusiasm,” Tyler told reporters in Chicago on Tuesday morning.

Those attending the Milwaukee event will also get a taste of the DNC.

After Walz and Harris finish, fans are invited to an outdoor party in the “Deer District,” just outside the Fiserv Forum, where the Milwaukee Bucks play.

There, they can watch the DNC’s primetime programming, including speeches by former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, who are running their first campaigns this cycle.

“We are going to use every resource at our disposal between now and November 5,” Tyler promised.
