Democratic Senator Chris Murphy deletes tweet complaining about being ‘pushed’ from CNN over Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement
- Democratic Senator Chris Murphy sent an unfortunate tweet on Friday ahead of Kate Middleton’s cancer revelation
- Murphy confirmed to a journalist that his 2 p.m. CNN interview was disrupted “by this much more important topic”
- The Rhode Island Democrat said he would appear on the network to talk about Obamacare
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy put his foot in his mouth ahead of Kate Middleton’s cancer revelation on Friday.
Murphy intervened when journalist Yashar Ali reported that US broadcast networks planned to air a special report on the health of the Princess of Wales at 2 p.m.
‘Can confirm! “I was supposed to be on @CNN at 2pm to talk about the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and the millions of lives it has saved, but my interview was interrupted by a much more important topic,” Murphy wrote to X.
What the networks aired was the future queen’s announcement that cancer had been discovered after undergoing abdominal surgery in January.
Murphy has since deleted the tweet.

DailyMail.com’s request for comment to Murphy’s office was not immediately returned.
Middleton’s video message – released simultaneously to media worldwide – ends speculation about her whereabouts that has captivated Americans for weeks.
She had not been seen in public during official functions since December.
A video released by The Sun last weekend of her shopping with her husband, Prince William, sparked conspiracy theories that the woman who appeared to be the princess was not her.
She was also involved in a Mother’s Day Photoshop scandal in Britain, with telephone services around the world pulling the image of the princess due to the obvious editing.
At the time of her operation in January, Kensington Palace said there was no cancer.
It was then found during testing after surgery, Middleton said, and she is undergoing “preventive” chemotherapy.
Middleton said her public absence was due to the family needing time to share the news with the royal couple’s three young children.
“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that suits them, and to reassure them that I am doing well,” she said.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asked a number of questions about Middleton during her public absence, including whether the White House had doctored photos of the president, vice president, first lady and second gentleman.
‘Why should the monarch do something to us? No, that is not something we do here,” Jean-Pierre said at a briefing earlier this month.
Some eagle-eyed conservatives posted on X that Murphy’s tweet was in poor taste.
“PATHETIC,” wrote Steve Guest. “Of course, Democrat Senator Chris Murphy is trying to make the Kate Middleton news about himself.”
Stephen Miller, former President Donald Trump’s immigration adviser, also chimed in.
“What an incredibly crude and rude message from Senator Murphy,” Miller said, sharing a screenshot of the since-deleted message.
X user @laurieinri responded with the comment: “The topic turned out to be about life-saving healthcare after all.”
