Democrat strategist makes shocking prediction to Bill Maher about why Trump’s low poll numbers might be misleading

A leading Democratic strategist has warned his party that Donald Trump’s polls can be misleading and that they should not take them for granted.

James Carville, who became known for his help Bill Clinton to the White House said in 1992 that Trump has traditionally been below polls, which should worry his party.

Speaking on Bill Maher’s Real Time, Carville said, “I say to Democrats, be careful here. First of all, most of the quantifiers [quantitative analysts] say that we must win by three votes in the popular election.

‘So if you see a poll that says we’re up two points, you’re actually up one point if the poll is correct.

“Trump traditionally, when he’s on the ballot, he’s chronically under the polls. They came back late in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania in 2020 and it showed Biden winning those states by seven or eight points.”

When Maher asked if he thinks Trump will do better than the polls show, he added: “I say he traditionally under-polls. I just say you have to win by three points and I think we can do that.

“I think the debate on September 10th is going to be so important. It’s going to have an audience that we can’t believe, because America loves a train wreck.”

According to a recent CNN PollHarris now leads the race at 50 percent, while Trump trails her by 2 percent at 48 percent.

Findings by The New York Times Figures released last week show the two presidential candidates are now locked in neck-and-neck races in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina.

A few weeks ago, it looked like Trump would carry these states, but new polls show Harris is slowly but surely narrowing his lead.

In Georgia, he still has a 50 percent lead, compared to 46 percent. In Nevada, he has a 48 percent lead, while Harris has a 47 percent lead.

Harris won 49 percent of the vote to Trump’s 47 percent in North Carolina, one of the key states where he held a majority in 2020.

The polls still show some risk for Harris: 49 percent of voters think she is too liberal, while 33 percent of voters think Trump is too conservative.

Carville made headlines earlier this year when President Biden was still in the race for saying his poll numbers were like “catching your grandma naked.”

He told the New York Times: ‘IIt’s like catching your grandma naked. You can’t get the image out of your head.’

Despite his scathing criticism, Carville added: “I actually like Biden. He’s a tough guy who’s had a real life.

“He’s a public school kid. He doesn’t have an ounce of elitism. He doesn’t even know what ‘woke’ is.

“He is arguably the best president black America has ever had, including Clinton and Obama.

“You look at incomes, employment, poverty rates, access to health care. It’s not where white people are, but it’s closer than ever.”

Carville made headlines earlier this year when President Biden was still in the race after he declared that his poll numbers were the equivalent of “catching your grandma naked.”

Despite his general approval of the incumbent president, Carville suspected that there were too many “preachy women” in the party.

Carville previously made headlines when she called Marjorie Taylor Greene and other Republicans who criticized Biden’s State of the Union address “white trash.”

“I tell people I have the equivalent of a Ph.D. in white trashology, and you really have white trash on display,” Carville told MSNBC.

“And let me say something about … Marjorie Taylor Greene. She dresses like white trash. She really needs a fashion consultant. Can I recommend George Santos?”
