Democrat Jasmine Crockett says Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘absolutely’ was ‘racist’ with attack on appearance in late night committee hearing and warns ‘don’t come for me’

Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett insisted that right-wing rabble-rouser Marjorie Taylor Green is “racist” and warned the Georgia congresswoman to “don’t come after me” after Greene attacked Crockett’s performance during a late-night hearing.

Crockett, who is Black, went on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday where she was asked whether Greene made fun of her “fake eyelashes” during a hearing to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress on Thursday.

“I think she did it specifically to me, yes, that was the intention,” Crockett responded to a question from moderator Jake Tapper about whether the attack was racist.

‘[Women] We wear all kinds of things to beautify ourselves, but MAGA has traditionally been on social media doing things where they’re like, ‘Oh, she’s black with eyelashes, nails and hair and so she’s ghetto,'” Crockett said.

β€œTo me, it was the fact that she believed in that rhetoric and tried to amplify it for the MAGA audience, and so yeah, I definitely think she just did it to be racist against me,” Crockett added.

β€œIt’s a racist trope, but the reality is that women of all colors wear eyelashes,” Crockett said.

Crockett said Greene received no punishment for her attack during the hearing, so she doesn’t expect there will be any consequences.

“I think the Speaker should have been inclined to rein her in after she tried to kick him out of his position, but they just let Marjorie do what she wanted to do, and I think that was the first time anyone actually ” no’ said. You’re not just going to treat me any way you want and get away with it.”

Greene went after Crockett’s actions during a hearing late Thursday.

“I don’t think you know what we’re here for,” Greene said during the hearing before turning her gaze to Crocketts’ appearance. “I think your fake eyelashes are ruining what you’re reading.”

Republicans declined to remove Greene’s comment from the record.

During that same hearing, Crockett fired back by questioning committee chairman James Comer on personal attacks ‘if someone in this committee then starts talking about someone’s pale blonde, poorly built, sturdy body’ if that would be against the rules.

She did not mention Greene by name, but the comment was clearly directed directly at her.

Crockett said Sunday that she does not regret her response. She said she signed up to be a member of Congress, but not to be disrespected. She claimed that MAGA does not respect the rules or the law.

On Friday, Crockett responded that Greene is “racist.”

β€œThat’s them attacking me, basically as a black woman, and all they’re trying to do is be like racists. That is it. That’s all it is: racism,” she said.

Crockett also suggested that Greene would likely raise money from the attack’because the racists want to give it to her so bad,” and noted that Greene has never criticized the appearance of her other colleagues.

When pressed Friday on whether personal attacks are fair after the Georgia Republican made fun of her appearance, Crockett said, “I don’t think they were ever on the table.”

β€œI think we have someone who is not fit for Congress currently in office and who is not playing by the rules,” the Democrat said of Greene.

On Saturday, she warned Greene “don’t come for me” in an MSNBC interview. That’s all I have to tell her. Don’t come after me with it.’

The Texas congresswoman is now doing her own fundraising for Democrats thanks to her own “poorly built, tough body” response with “A Crockett Clapback Collection” of merchandise.

Progressive ‘Squad’ member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also clashed with Greene during the hearing, where she called for the comments to be removed from the record.

In a moment that went viral, Ocasio-Cortez responded to Greene “oh girl, girl… don’t even play.”

She said Friday that it was not lost on her that Greene targeted the only Black woman on the committee.

Comer has said he couldn’t keep up with the members’ insults because he has two hearing aids and couldn’t make out what Greene, Crockett and AOC were saying at the time.

There were also allegations that some members drank booze before or during the late-night hearing.
