Democrat accused of ‘accidentally leaking’ that Josh Shapiro is Kamala Harris’ running mate in bizarre tweet

A tweet from a Democrat has caused chaos after it appeared Vice President Kamala Harris had chosen Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker caused a stir on Friday with a post in which she wrote: “Proud to be back with so many leaders from across the region supporting @KamalaHarris for President and @JoshShapiroP for Vice President!”

She added a video of footage from recent press conferences that ended with the message: “Josh Shapiro for Vice President.”

Journalist Ernest Owens subsequently claimed that he had heard from sources that the story would be posted by Monday, but that it was accidentally published early.

However, sources told the Philadelphia researcher that the message was merely a recommendation and a sign of support for Shapiro.

“This is not an announcement of anything. This is simply the mayor expressing her support for an old friend who we know is one of the people who qualifies.”

Philadelphia’s Cherelle Parker caused a stir on Friday with a post in which she wrote, “Proud to be back with so many leaders from our region supporting @KamalaHarris for President and @JoshShapiroP for Vice President!”

Shapiro is seen as one of Harris’s vice presidential favorites and has been endorsed by her campaign.

He canceled a number of planned fundraisers in the Hamptons this weekend.

His team gave no indication that the cancellation had anything to do with the vice presidential selection process.

“The governor’s trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee,” spokesman Manuel Bonder told DailyMail.com.

“His schedule has changed and he will no longer be traveling to the Hamptons this weekend,” Bonder added.

Harris is expected to announce her running mate early next week.

They then travel together to seven swing regions.

One sign that it could be Shapiro is that the Democratic candidates will arrive in Philadelphia first.

Harris and her running mate will then travel to western Wisconsin, Detroit, Raleigh, Savannah, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Former President Donald Trump likely cannot win the election without swinging Pennsylvania back in his favor.

In 2016, he won the Keystone State from Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Four years later, current President Joe Biden, born in Scranton, won.

Adding Shapiro to the ticket could boost Harris’ chances in Pennsylvania, especially in more conservative western Pennsylvania, where Shapiro outpolled Biden during his 2022 race.

Shapiro also won large margins in the suburbs and exurbs surrounding Philadelphia, which could be decisive for victory in the state.
