Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen said exhausted partygoers “lashed out” at each other after finally breaking free from a weekend of misery in the rain and mud.

Drone footage from DailyMail.com showed crowds of vehicles meandering slowly across the sand as they made their way towards the exits.
Some tried to cut in front of each other, while others swerved in the mud to avoid a crash, with reports of patience running out during the standoff.
It came as the grand finale – the burning of ‘the man’ – finally got under way a day late, with the wooden statue lit in front of the dwindling crowd who had remained.
Meanwhile, officials named the man who died at the festival on Saturday as 32-year-old Leon Reece, as they admitted the weather hampered their response.
“As commonly happens in what burners call the ‘default world,’ people let their emotions override their reason and lash out at each other as they leave the playa and try to reach their next destination,” Pershing County Sheriff said. Allen told it San Francisco Chronicle.
‘This behavior absolutely does not fall within the 10 principles of Burning Man, but that is not BMP’s fault either, but a social issue.’
Allen also said the unusual weather delayed the arrival of emergency services when Reece collapsed last Saturday.
He said an investigation is underway and a toxicology report is being conducted. The sheriff said the abnormal weather caused problems with the trash.
“It’s a little different this year as there are numerous vehicles scattered all over the playa for several miles,” the sheriff said.
The annual gathering, which started on a San Francisco beach in 1986, attracts nearly 80,000 artists, musicians and activists for a mix of wilderness camping and avant-garde performances.
