It’s been a year since Willis’s family announced the 67-year-old actor would be leaving his career after being diagnosed with aphasia. Last month, his family said the disease had progressed to frontotemporal dementia.

Come on #ftdawareness #dementiaawareness #caregiversupport’.

FTD occurs when nerve cells in the lobes behind the forehead die and the pathways that connect them change.

The left temporal lobe is involved in the meaning of words and the names of objects. The right recognizes familiar faces and objects.

The symptoms are different from the memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

These may include; personality changes, such as tactlessness, disinterest in others, and compulsive, repetitive, and unsympathetic movements, such as repeated use of certain phrases, hoarding and control of time, craving unhealthy foods, and forgetfulness of manners in the room table, speech difficulties, including slow speech, grammatical errors, and asking the meaning of familiar words like ‘bread’.

Bruce’s blended family issued a joint statement in late March announcing that he would “walk away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

The statement revealed that he “has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive abilities.”

Willis had reportedly been struggling with cognitive issues on the sets of his movies for years, even requiring a headset to hear his lines.

An unnamed source told Page Six that his declining cognitive ability had been an open secret in Hollywood, as the actor repeatedly had trouble acting in his films.
