Earlier this year, Demi revealed that she had “missed” how simple her old life was before she rose to fame on the hit dating show Love Island three years ago.
The reality star admitted that “everything was perfect and she was living in a bubble” while working at Primark and barely having a social media following.
However, Demi credited the ITV series for helping save her life after viewers urged her to have a lump on her neck examined, which turned out to be cancer.
Speaking on The Secret To Podcast with Vicky Pattison, Demi explained how her life has changed.
She said, “I feel like I’ve lived five lives in the last three years. It’s the weirdest thing. Three and a half years ago I worked at Primark with about a thousand followers and three years later I’ve been to Love Island, got an amazing new job and survived cancer.
“It has certainly been difficult. It sounds sad, but I miss my old life. Before Love Island, everything was fine in my life.”
She continued, “I look back at my old life and everything was perfect and I was living in a bubble. As soon as the diagnosis came that my father was terminally ill, I had Love Island, the pandemic, cancer, it’s never felt the same since and I have really high highs and very low lows.
Demi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in May 2021 after discovering a lump in her neck. In November 2022, she celebrated being cancer-free for a year.

She was open throughout her journey, revealing that it was Love Island viewers that prompted her to get a second opinion in the first place after being told it was nothing to worry about.
She continued, “The first time they looked at it, they thought it was nothing. I went on Love Island and when I got off the show people messaged me and said “I think you should get this lump checked”.
“So I thought okay if something isn’t right and people notice I pushed for a second opinion and thank goodness I did. It shows how powerful Love Island is and I can’t remember who messaged me but thank you, it saved me.”
The TV star underwent two surgeries after doctors found and treated a golf ball-sized tumor on her neck.
The disease develops in the cells of the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped gland just below the Adam’s apple in the neck.
Telltale signs include a lump in the neck, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, and hoarseness.
Demi rose to fame during Love Island’s first winter series in 2020 and admitted that she hasn’t looked at herself again because of “cringing like that.”
She was linked to hunk Luke Mabbott, but the pair went their separate ways three months after the show.
He has since moved on and got engaged to 2019 star Lucie Donlan.
Demi “took a break” from dating for a while, but hopes to get back on the market this year.
She added: “I haven’t met anyone or gone on dates in the past year. I feel like I needed a break. I have always been dating or with someone and I wanted to go out with the girls and have fun.
“I’m hoping to get back into the dating scene this year, but I’m in no rush. However, I have a three month rule. If they don’t take it seriously in three months, I’ll quit because you’re wasting my time.’
