Delusional Mayor Eric Adams brags about New York City safety – including on the subway system – just days after horrific train shooting amid spate of migrant crime

New York Mayor Eric Adams claimed the Big Apple is the “safest big city in America,” just days after a horrific shooting on a train and the governor deploying National Guard troops to crack down on subway offenders.

“This is the safest big city in America. We inherited a city where crime has increased by 40 percent, that is not reality. Our subways are safe – this is great,” Adams said at the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

There have been more subway shooting victims so far this year than last year WABC.

Although transit crime in the month of February decreased by 15 percent compared to 2023, it increased by 13 percent compared to last year.

“It was disturbing to see crime increase in the subway,” said Chris Herrmann, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice who studies crime.

Subway crime isn’t the only problem the Big Apple has faced, as numerous high-profile incidents of violence have occurred, making headlines and worrying locals and visitors.

“The big red flag for the NYPD is that we have surpassed the number of shootings in the subway system for all of 2023 and here we are, it’s only early March.”

So far in the week ending March 17, thefts are up 5.8 percent, crimes are up 3.8 percent, and transit crime is up 6.9 percent, according to data from the New York City Police Department.

The mayor’s comments come as the city has witnessed a wave of crime, including the murder of a teenage girl in a bodega and a shooting on the subway during rush hour.

Bodega stabbing in Brooklyn

On Sunday night, a teenager was stabbed to death outside a Brooklyn bodega for refusing to follow her killer on Instagram.

Twin sisters Samyis and Sanyia Spain took a break from a family game night around 2:20 a.m. and decided to grab some snacks with their brother at a bodega in Park Slope.

A man came across the twins and made advances, including asking to connect on social media.

That’s when the man attacked, killing Samyia and sending Sanyia to the hospital.

Police have appealed for help finding Sunday’s killer, who witnesses said wore a balaclava and fled after the attack, leaving a knife in the blood-stained street.

Rush hour shot in the subway

Two men broke out into a wild brawl on a New York City subway on Thursday, moments before the agitator was shot in the head with his own gun.

The 36-year-old man who was shot, Dajuan Robinson, accused the other man, Younece Obuad, of being a “migrant who beat up officers” in angry scenes as other passengers rushed to get away.

He was then shot in the head with his own gun by the other man, 32, after it was wrestled away from him in a struggle on a Brooklyn A train Thursday evening.

Obuad will not be charged because prosecutors in Brooklyn have ruled he acted in self-defense.

Robinson was quickly identified as the aggressor in the encounter as he appeared to target Obuad and a female companion in the crowded subway while shouting about migrants.

National Guard deployed

Last week’s shooting on the nation’s busiest public transit system came less than a week after New York Governor Kathy Hochul deployed nearly a thousand National Guard members in an effort to stem rampant violence on the subway call.

Hochul joined Adams’ efforts to stem a wave of attacks in the underground system – which he said is fueled by the inability to stop repeat offenders.

Adams’ crackdown includes subway passengers being subjected to ‘random’ bag checks, while the number of plainclothes officers patrolling the station will see a major increase.

The announcement came just days after a subway worker was cut in the neck while sticking his head out of a train window on February 29.

Alton Scott, 59, was attacked around 3:40 a.m. while on a southbound A train at Rockaway Avenue and Fulton Street Station in Brooklyn.

Authorities said the conductor had stuck his head out of the train’s window when he was cut once on the neck.

He was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he received 34 stitches and was later released.

Catsuit killer

On February 8, Queens sex worker Denisse Oleas-Arancibia was strangled and hit over the head at the Soho 54 hotel.

Her suspected killer, Raad Noan Almansoori, 26, was arrested in Arizona after police say he stabbed two women there – one in a McDonalds and the other while stealing her car.

Surveillance footage of Almansoori, caught after Oleas-Arancibia’s murder, shows him wearing her bodysuit on a well-lit Manhattan street.

Almansoori was on bail at the time of the murder for attacking and sexually assaulting another escort in Florida in April 2023. After being arrested on that charge, he later posted his own bail in September last year.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has ordered her staff not to extradite Almansoori, saying she is looking out for the families of his victims and cannot guarantee the suspect will remain locked up because of Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s lax bail policy.

Times Square Migrant Attack

A mob of migrants attacked police officers sent to disperse them in Times Square on January 27.

Up to 14 people are believed to have been involved in the attack, although NYPD officials have repeatedly revised the number of suspects.

According to the criminal complaint, the attack occurred after two police officers ordered the suspects to move to West 41st Street. When an officer grabbed Brito and pushed him against a building, Brito tried to escape and struggled with the officer while being held on the ground.

That’s when the other migrants jumped in and began attacking police, police said.

A total of eight migrants have been charged since the attack on police. Police are still looking for at least eight other suspects believed to have been involved in the brawl.

Yohenry Brito, 24, Yorman Reveron, 24, Kelvin Servita Arocha, 19, Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, 19, and Wilson Juarez, 21, were all sent to Rikers Island to await trial after being arraigned.

All are charged with second-degree assault and obstructing governmental administration, except Juarez, who is charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. They all have to appear in court again on April 13.
