The traveler said the horrible smell lingered for the rest of the flight – and it was only after they landed and disembarked that they discovered the cause.

On their way out, the Reddit user said they noticed one of the seats, about eight rows away, was “covered” in “s**t.”

They said the fecal matter had engulfed the entire area, including the bottom and back of the seat.

“My daughter and I were heading to Key West on Christmas Eve and had to catch a connecting flight from Birmingham to Atlanta,” they wrote.

‘About twenty minutes into the flight I smelled a horrible smell and asked my daughter if she has pooped (she is eight).

‘She denies doing anything wrong and the smell lingers for the rest of the flight. As I exited the plane, eight rows in front of me, (I see) someone was sitting all the way in their seat.

‘The bottom of the seat and the backrest were covered. This person sat in his/her s**t for a good hour and then left for the Atlanta airport covered in s**t. Definitely a first for me.’

In the comments section, the poster added that they spent “well over 45 minutes” on the runway, meaning the person had been sitting in their feces the entire time.

When someone asked them how they didn't

When someone asked them how they didn’t “gag to death from the smell,” they explained that “it wasn’t that bad when they were sitting,” and only “got bad” when they stood up.

“It went all the way back there, it was more than halfway up the seat,” they said. ‘5 hour flight, I probably drank too much coffee. They sat there for a good 45 minutes until we left.”

Ultimately, they said they “felt empathy for the person” and hoped they had extra clothes “in their carry-on.”

Someone else who was on the same flight also shared their experience – and they revealed that they were in the same row as the person who had the accident.

“I was waiting for someone to post this,” they said. ‘I sat in the same row, the person sat in the left aisle seat, we sat on the right (middle and window).

“When I got out I noticed there was shit spread on the seat like peanut butter, like you said, yuck.

‘I saw the person running to the toilets. Even before boarding, the plane smelled strange, a kind of fishy smell.’

When someone responded and asked them how they didn’t “gag to death from the smell” all the time, they explained that “it wasn’t that bad when they sat,” and only “got bad” when they stood up.

The post received more than 1,000 comments from people who had mixed reactions to the incident.

Some were revolted by the idea of sitting on a plane where someone had defecated on themselves, while others said they felt ‘sorry’ for the person and wondered if they had a medical condition.

“(As) someone with an upset stomach, I sympathize with him. I might have an event twice a year. Never been on a plane before,” one person said.

‘Life is not easy for people with stomach problems. I have literally thrown away underwear, rinsed pants in the sink with soap, and rubbed them with disinfectant to complete a trip. Thank the stars, it wasn’t you.’

“I really feel sorry for whoever this was. I’m pretty sure that IBS and possibly Crone’s disease can cause uncontrolled accidents, and if someone hasn’t been diagnosed yet or is working out a treatment that works for them, that’s a pretty awful situation to be in ,” someone else wrote. .

“I seriously doubt anyone wanted to just get on a plane and sit in it. I’m quite shocked by the lack of compassion or understanding in most of these comments.

“People don’t sit in public for jokes, that’s someone who is physically ill in some way.”

‘This message is a bit sad. I don’t think anyone likes sitting for themselves, they probably had some sort of medical emergency,” another user agreed.

“I really feel sorry for the person this happened to,” read a fourth comment. “As disgusting as it is to others, imagine how embarrassing it would have been for them.”

A fifth said: ‘God, can you imagine being that person? Close your pants and you can’t go anywhere.

“WTF are you going to do other than sit in your throat until the flight is over. I remember taking a shot during lunch break in high school.

‘I made a (run) to the bathroom to find that my panties saved the day. Spent the rest of the day in command and no one was the wiser. Most of us have been there at least once.”
