A Delta passenger claims she had to inject herself with two EpiPens after crew members handed out nuts despite being aware of her life-threatening allergy.

Sara Metzger has since vowed never to fly Delta Air Lines again — saying “I don’t want to die on a Delta flight” — after the airline failed to accommodate her disability and failed to respond when she suffered an anaphylactic reaction on board.

Metzger was traveling from Sarasota, Florida, back home to Portland, Oregon, in April after visiting family.

Speak against Business InsiderMetzger said she informed the cabin crew about her nut allergy when she changed flights in Atlanta, Georgia.

Despite this, she claims that passengers on board the flight were told that snacks containing almonds would be distributed.

Metzger said she reminded staff of her allergy and was asked if she wanted a buffer zone around her so the crew couldn’t serve the nuts — and opted for the latter option.

But shortly after snacks were handed out during the flight, Metzger said her throat started to swell and she started itching, both common signs of anaphylaxis.

Metzger then noticed that other passengers on board the flight in her area had developed tonsils.

Metzger hurried to the bathroom, administered an EpiPen, and urged the crew members to crash land.

She said another passenger, who was a cardiologist, had examined her and advised her to wait and see if her symptoms improved.

Metzger then administered a second injection after her symptoms persisted, she said Business Insider: ‘Right now, none of the staff are really talking to me. They all talk through this doctor.

“I just sit there with the residual effects of this anaphylactic reaction, hoping it doesn’t come back and I don’t die on this plane.

“It was just a really terrifying situation to be in.”

Despite pleas for an emergency landing, the pilot refused to do so and landed in Portland as planned.

Metzger said a medical crew had to wait for other passengers to get off the plane to reach her.

In a complaint viewed by Business Insider, the Department of Transportation said: “Despite Ms. lying medical needs of Mrs. Metzger.

“The pilot refused to land.”

A Delta spokesperson told DailyMail.com, “While we are unfortunately unable to respond to this specific event, passenger safety is Delta’s top priority and our crew is trained and prepared to respond to inflight events as they occur.”
