Delta flight diverts to New York after passengers are served spoiled food

NEW YORK — A Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted to New York’s Kennedy Airport on Wednesday after passengers were served spoiled food, airlines reported.

The overnight flight departed Detroit around 11 p.m. Tuesday night and landed in New York at 4 a.m., “following reports that some of the meals in the Main Cabin on board were spoiled,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement.

Emergency medical services received the plane and treated 12 passengers, the New York Fire Department said.

It is not clear how many of the 277 passengers on board the plane ate the tainted food.

Delta said it would conduct an investigation.

“This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delays in their travels,” the Delta spokesperson said.
