Dell Technologies requires sales staff to work in the office five days a week
Dell Technologies has made a remarkable change in its working policies in the global sales division. As indicated in an internal memo, those able to work from the company offices will have to do so five days a week from September 30, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The move is reportedly intended to promote a more collaborative work environment and support the professional development of the sales team. According to the memo, in-person work was emphasized as essential, with remote work seen as the exception rather than the standard, the report said.
Sales personnel, and especially field representatives, are expected to divide their time between customer and partner assignments and office duties, working a five-day work week. The previous policy required them to stay in the office for three days, the report said.
The company has made accommodations for certain employees, stating that remote sales team members who cannot go to a Dell office should continue to work remotely. Dell has indicated that it will provide more details about its remote workers soon.
In August, Dell announced a major restructuring of its sales division, including layoffs aimed at streamlining operations and emphasizing artificial intelligence. According to a report from Business insider.
While Dell did not specify the number of employees affected, estimates indicate that approximately 12,500 employees, or about 10 percent of the company’s total workforce, could be affected, as reported by Newsbyte.
The decision joins a broader trend among tech companies reassessing remote work policies introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic. While many organizations have adopted hybrid work models, some are calling for a stronger return to the office.
Similarly, Amazon recently stated that it will require employees to be in the office five days a week starting next year, a shift from its previous policy that allowed three days of in-office work.
