Delayed Suicide Squad shooter gets Xbox Series X and PS5 performance confirmed

Upcoming co-op shooter The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks incredibly fast and frantic, so it’s a good thing the game targets 60fps on Xbox Series X and PS5.
Some specific details regarding different performance modes for The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for Xbox Series X and PS5 have been verified so far. Judging by the fact that the game is an always-online action game, it makes sense that graphical fidelity is secondary to maximizing performance.
The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League now arrives on May 26 after being delayed from its original late 2022 release date. If confirmed in a recent FAQ on the game’s official website (opens in new tab)the shooter will be “completely cross-platform”, so it doesn’t matter if you play with your friends on PC or consoles.
Also confirmed by developers Rocksteady, the team behind the Batman Arkham series, is that you need an internet connection to play the game, even in single player. Sadly, there’s no couch split-screen co-op either. It’s not shocking news, as few Xbox Series X and PS5 titles support it, but it would have been nice.
The new gameplay recap trailer shows exactly how Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark will play. Unlike Rocksteady’s earlier trilogy of games, the focus with these villains isn’t on Freeflow hand-to-hand combat, but more conventional third-person shooting. Task Force X is seriously fast as they jump and teleport around the map with a diverse arsenal of firearms capable of putting the most famous superhero team ever on paper.
As we have seen before with always online games like Marvel’s Avengers, there will be a battle pass system, but this will be “cosmetics only” for outfits and emotes, which is pretty standard in a title like this. There will be free and premium tiers, so there’s not necessarily an incentive to spend more money than the initial purchase.
I must say that this news was not the most encouraging for me. As someone who loved James Gunn’s The suicide squad and the Batman: Attack on Arkham animated movie featuring these characters, it’s a shame it looks like a fairly by-the-numbers shooter.
The requirement to be online all the time leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, as I’ve never been one to buy games as a service. It’s safe to say that if you’re into these types of games and love DC comics, you might get a lot out of them. If you loved last year Gotham knights and then wants more of a Batman fix The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems to satisfy that void.
