LaLiga president Javier Tebas appears to have started a furious war of words against Real Madrid president Florentino Perez on social media.
Earlier on Tuesday it was announced that the Spanish Administrative Court for Sports (TAD) has opened disciplinary proceedings against the 61-year-old.
The case relates to a complaint filed by Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez over a £1.68 billion (€2 billion) deal with private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.
The Champions League winners, along with Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, opposed the transaction – also known as the ‘Boost LaLiga’ project – signed in December 2021. The deal saw LaLiga and its clubs receive £1.68bn in exchange for 8.2 per cent of the competition’s broadcasting and sponsorship revenues for the next 50 years.
Perez, meanwhile, had argued that his team had been put at a disadvantage by LaLiga during negotiations with CVC. According to reports, according to ESPNMadrid ‘accused Tebas of abuse of power and a lack of transparency in convening and leading the meeting where the CVC agreement was discussed.’

The disciplinary measures came after Perez (pictured) and Real Madrid complained about Tebas and LaLiga’s deal with CVC Capital Partners
LaLiga’s president was reportedly supposed to give the clubs 10 days’ notice of the meeting, but reports say the president only gave them eight days.
According to Marca, Tebas, who has been president of LaLiga since 2013, now faces a suspension.
But he has spoken out clearly against the lawsuit, saying in a video on his X account (formerly Twitter): “All those who think that President Javier Tebas is going to be disqualified, sit down and wait, because that will not be the case.”
Real Madrid had already lost a legal battle against Tebas and LaLiga in 2023 over their claims that the distribution of television revenue through the new CVC deal was “illegal”.
“I will not be removed from office,” he added.
“There is a long road ahead of us. A case has been opened and I aim to win it definitively in its various stages. As I said, it is clear that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez does not to convince the clubs in Spain or Europe, tries to find other ways to get rid of the democratically elected president of LaLiga. In this case, it’s me.’
During the video, Tebas took aim at Perez (pictured) and claimed the Real Madrid president had failed to convince clubs to ‘try to get rid of whoever is elected’ – referring to himself
Tebas then stated that he felt he was supported by a large part of the clubs in LaLiga
The Spaniard then went on to say that he felt he had the support of a large proportion of the clubs in LaLiga, before addressing the complaints made against him.
‘I must stress that in recent times I have had the support of the vast majority of the clubs that are part of our league, to whom I thank the support they give me because it serves as encouragement in these situations, and it is not the first time that I have had to deal with it. We will get through it, as we have done with problems that we have faced before.’
The LaLiga president, who previously worked as an advisor and chairman at several top Spanish clubs, also provided the video with a lengthy caption, in which he referred to Perez and Real Madrid.
The LaLiga president, who has worked as an advisor and president at several Spanish clubs during his career, also provided the video with a long caption. It appears that he is referring to Perez and Real Madrid in the caption.
“It seems that someone does not accept that their Super League has been unanimously rejected by the entire world football and that CVC’s project with LaLiga has been approved with all guarantees by an overwhelming majority of 39 of the 42 clubs and ratified by the courts,” he wrote.
‘It seems that someone, an expert in political mamonism, has to take desperate measures to impose his particular vision on football.
Perez (right) and Real Madrid had previously taken legal action against the CVC deal, but their case was unsuccessful
Tebas has been president of the Spanish league since 2013 and has stated emphatically that he will not be sanctioned.
“Well, make no mistake, we will continue to work and defend ourselves with all our might.”
Tebas then addressed the complaints about the CVC meeting of August 12, 2021, explaining why clubs were given eight instead of ten days prior to the CVC meeting.
‘As for the meeting of August 12, it should be noted that a disciplinary file is opened because it was called urgently, because it was called eight days in advance and the urgency was not justified… And not with ten days, which would not have been necessary to justify.
‘A matter of form. But in addition, at the end of that meeting, the CVC agreement was not discussed as planned, but put on hold because it was decided that Athletic, Real Madrid and Barcelona would not be accepted because of the costs that the CVC operation could entail in the joint accounts.
‘That agreement was pushed back to December, when it was approved. An agreement that Real Madrid also challenged again and lost in court, and which was ratified by the same courts.’
