Defiant Diana won battles against Charles over names for their little Princes

What Prince William Would Have Been Named (Had Charles Had His Way)

If Prince Charles had had his way, his eldest son would have been named Arthur.

It was an intriguing wish, as it would have meant that Charles would have been succeeded by a King Arthur – the same name as the legendary fictional hero who ruled Britain in the Middle Ages.

However, Princess Diana had objected. Indeed, she and Charles argued over what to name their son.

Eventually a compromise was reached and William was chosen, with Arthur as his middle name.

Diana also won the coin toss on what to name their second son. Instead of Henry or Harry, Charles had wanted Albert – the real baptismal name of his grandfather, King George VI, who took the name when he became king.
