Dee Why, Sydney: Grim theory emerges after body found in carpark

The death of a man whose body was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex in an upscale suburb is not being treated as a suspected homicide, according to investigators.

Emergency services discovered the body of the 40-year-old man at Ilikai Place in Dee Why, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, at 7.11am on Monday, following a report from a member of the public.

Riot police and emergency services spent four hours trying to enter a section of the complex to speak to a 41-year-old man, who was reportedly known to the deceased and also to police.

He was arrested at around 12.30pm that day and taken to Manly police station for questioning. No charges were laid.

Northern Beaches Police Area Command Acting Commander Traci Watt confirmed the death was being treated as suspicious but not homicide.

Police are investigating whether the man overdosed on drugs before his body was dumped in the garage.

“We are awaiting the results of the autopsy to understand how this man died,” Mr Watt said.

He added that initial investigations showed that the man showed no signs of injury.

The man arrested at the unit covered his face with a green hoodie as he was escorted to a police car.

A neighbor said he saw a black hatchback approach the apartment complex several times before 5 a.m. Monday morning, but that there was no commotion.

“I didn’t hear or see anything, it’s normally a pretty quiet building,” local resident Kassan told Daily Mail Australia.

“It’s a very, very scary thing to happen. I’ve been living in the building for eight months and I found out when the police arrived this morning.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
