Declan Donnelly reveals the special lucky charm his daughter Isla, 6, gave him ahead of the NTAs which he believes led to his joint 23rd win

Ant and Dec won the Best Presenter award at the National Television Awards for the 23rd time, having previously won the title in 2001.

And Declan Donnelly, 48, said he thinks they won thanks to the cute good luck charm his six-year-old daughter Isla gave him before the ceremony.

When the couple took to the stage at the O2 Arena once more, Dec revealed in their acceptance speech that Isla had wished him luck that morning as he dropped her off at school.

He told the audience and ITV viewers: ‘My little girl Isla said, ‘Good luck, Daddy, I hope you win the trophy. Take my lip balm, it might bring you luck.”

Holding up the small lip balm, Dec continued, “Isla, it worked! We won! Well done, darling.”

Dec and his wife Ali Astall have a daughter Isla, six, and a son Jack, thirteen months old.

He continued: ‘Our lives have changed so much in the last six years since we had very small children. We used to party all night long.’

He joked, “Now we’re back to dirty diapers and school drop-offs.”

“It is very difficult to put into words how this feels and how much it means to us that you have named us winners.

Ant added: “It’s a joy and we know we’re not going to win it for a year and tonight it’s not, thank God. Thanks to our beautiful wives and families and sorry we’re working so hard but we’ve got a bit of time off now.”

The duo later posed on Instagram with their awards, with Dec adding that Isla ‘will be over the moon to officially own a lucky lip balm’.

They wrote: ‘It is difficult to find words to express how grateful we are to everyone who took the time to vote for us again this year. We are truly humbled.

“Thank you” may not seem like enough, but it says it all. Isla will be happy to officially have a lucky lip balm.”

After the sweet speech, fans wrote on Twitter: ‘Dec was talking about Isla, that was so sweet’;

‘@antanddec; truly the best. I couldn’t be more proud.’;

‘and the Ant & Dec (Best Presenter) award goes to… for the 23rd year in a row… Ant & Dec as it should be’;

‘Ant & Dec are a source of national pride – they have been the best at what they do for years.’;

‘Congratulations to Ant & Dec who have won the TV presenter award for the 23rd year, well deserved! Congratulations on the I’m a celebrity award!’

Ant shared an Instagram snap of himself sweetly holding his baby boy on Tuesday, writing: ‘Born 14/05/24 at 8.54am Baby is beautiful, mummy is a legend, sisters are over the moon. Daddy is a mess!’

It is Ant’s first baby, while Anne-Marie already has two children from her previous marriage, Poppy and Daisy. A source said the couple feel their family is now ‘complete’.

A source spoke of his happiness now that he has become a father: ‘Ant and Anne-Marie are extremely happy: their family is complete.

The baby is Ant’s first, while Anne-Marie already has two children, Poppy and Daisy, from her previous marriage. A source said the couple feel their family is now ‘complete’ (pictured at their August 2021 wedding).

“They have been inundated with loving messages from friends, family and fans and are still working on it. They are incredibly grateful to everyone.

“They chose the name Wilder a while ago but have deliberately kept it a secret. They are absolutely going to make wonderful, dedicated parents and Ant can’t wait to be a hands-on dad, changing the nappies and just spending time with little Wilder.”

Ant has been open about his desire to have children in the past, publicly saying he was trying to have a child with his ex-wife Lisa Armstrong.

The couple were childless when they filed for divorce in 2018 after 11 years of marriage. Ant and Anne-Marie married in 2021.

When news of Anne-Marie’s pregnancy broke, it was claimed that Ant was overjoyed as he didn’t think fatherhood was on the cards for him.
