A woman on the island of Guadeloupe who allegedly beheaded her two small children had to be tasered by police and admitted to a psychiatric hospital after she was found naked and singing in the streets.
The bodies of the mutilated siblings, aged four and 13 months, were found by their father in a bathtub at their home in Sainte-Rose at around 3:25 am on Tuesday.
The children’s father, who had just returned home from work, alerted emergency services, after which police found the woman “in a state of delirium,” Guadeloupe Gendarmerie Commander General Christophe Perret said.
French newspaper Le Parisien reported that the woman spoke incoherently and could not explain the reasons for her actions when approached by police.
District Attorney Caroline Talbo said the mother was initially taken into custody and then released due to her mental state, and has been in hospital since.
Police have opened a murder investigation, but no further details have been released.
A woman on the island of Guadeloupe who allegedly beheaded her two small children had to be tasered by police and admitted to a psychiatric hospital after she was found naked and singing in the streets.
According to outlet Ouest France, autopsies of the two bodies will be carried out today and tomorrow.
In addition, a bladed weapon was discovered at the scene of the murders, which will now be analyzed, Calbo confirmed.
Meanwhile, the father had to be treated by emergency services because he was in shock.
The gruesome murder of two innocent children comes just days after a woman killed herself and her two children after jumping from Niagara Falls last week.
Chianti Means, 33, stepped over the guardrail on Luna Island on Monday evening with her two children Roman, 9, and Mecca, four months.
Police said last Wednesday that after days of thoroughly searching the area, search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful.
Since her death, previous Facebook posts she made have surfaced online, in which she expressed her desire to return to her daughter’s father.
Just days before coming to terms with her and her children’s deaths, Means marveled at her daughter and wrote online that she was beautiful.
On October 14, Means expressed regret that she and her daughter’s father were no longer together.
