Debbie McGee has not ruled out finding love again after the death of her late husband Paul Daniels

Debbie McGee wouldn’t rule out dating again if the right person came along, six years after the death of her late husband Paul Daniels.

Television personality Debbie, 64, worked for many years as magician Paul’s assistant, and the pair first met in 1979 when she took the stage with him at the Britannia Pier Theater in Greater Yarmouth.

And Debbie, who married Paul in 1988, says she would consider finding love again with a new partner because she “don’t know how long I’ll live.”

She told the How to turn 60 with Kaye Adams: ‘If I run into someone with whom I had real charisma, I’m not going to say no and push him away. I don’t know how long I will live and I believe in enjoying every day as much as possible.

But so far I just haven’t met that person. So if there is one, I believe that life will bring me to them at the right time, but I don’t feel like there is a void. I love my life so I just enjoy every day for what it brings me.

Debbie, who plans to auction Paul’s archive of props for £200,000, says it was “traumatic” going through the late star’s belongings.

She explained: “Until this year, I hadn’t been able to let anything go.

“These things are a comfort. Some people get rid of everything right away, but I had the opposite feeling.

“Now I feel I should pass on his legacy. But experiencing everything was like going through our lives together. It was quite traumatic at first. You can’t hold onto things forever.

Elsewhere, Debbie claimed that people just saw her as a “bimbo assistant” until she did Strictly Come Dancing.

The former ballet dancer, who was once the artistic director of her own ballet company, made the final of the BBC dance show in 2017, just a year after her magician Paul died of a brain tumor at the age of 77.

Debbie said that despite her hard work behind the scenes, she was mocked as “just a magician’s assistant.”

However, she said it all changed when she joined Strictly.

Debbie said she was very “rough” when she decided to go to the show, as it was so shortly after Paul’s death.

She said, “Paul always wanted me to do it and I love music. I just thought it was an opportunity that might not come my way again.

‘I didn’t realize then that it would have such a big effect on my life because – thank you very much – people see me with different eyes.

“Until that time most people thought I was just a bimbo assistant and behind the scenes with Paul they hadn’t realized how much I was doing and that I had a talent of my own.

“I was raised by an Irish father and a mother of Scottish descent… I think people could see that I wasn’t just another magician’s assistant.

“Although I had my own radio show for 12 years and did a lot of other things unless people saw me do that…I think I was treated very, very differently after I did Strictly and I still do.”
