Deb Knight’s 2GB Radio Sydney replacement has been unveiled after she was removed from the coveted afternoon slot.
Michael McLaren, who has been Knight’s interim replacement since her departure earlier this month, will take over the prime timeslot from noon to 3 p.m.
At the age of 38, McLaren combines his professional life with family responsibilities as father to his almost two-year-old daughter Natalie, with his wife Kat.
McLaren expressed his excitement about the opportunity in a conversation with Ben Fordham.

‘I am honored to be able to do this. There has been a rich and wonderful legacy at 2GB on Afternoons for years and most recently at Deb, so they are big boots to fill. I’m going to do my best.’
“We’re going to do traditional afternoon radio, the open line will drive it. We will be in the news, but also in the entertainment world.
‘My interests can be a bit esoteric – I love history so we’ll have plenty of that and I’ve been told I have a dry sense of humor so I’ll hopefully bring that up too.’

Deb announced a big career move to her radio listeners earlier this month.
The former Today star said she will become the ‘new national presenter of Money News’.
‘I’m taking a step back as host of the afternoons. However, I’m not leaving 2 GB behind. In fact, I’m taking on a new, broader networking role,” she said.
‘I have been appointed to a new role as the new national presenter of Money News.’
Current Money News host Scott Haywood “will also continue to play a major role in Money News,” although Deb did not elaborate on his role.
The media host went on to say that “taking a step back from afternoons is not easy” as she “loves” the show she has been hosting for the past four years.
Despite reportedly being ‘shattered’ by Nine’s decision, she has chosen to look on the bright side of her new evening job.
“I’ve missed too many school drop-offs and pick-ups over the years, I often put my work first,” she said.
‘I’m really looking forward to being here for my family many more times.’
Deb’s departure from 2GB’s afternoon slot was first reported last month when it was revealed she was fired after a huge drop in her ratings
Deb’s departure from 2GB’s afternoon slot was first reported earlier this month when it was revealed she was being sacked following a huge drop in her ratings.
The broadcaster was ‘stunned’ by the news it received, the station reported The Sunday Telegraph.
Her salary was rumored to be $600,000 when she started the afternoon radio show in 2020 after being fired from the Today breakfast show.
But despite debuting with a stunning 11.4 percent audience share, she has since fallen to a record-low 6 percent share in the most recent survey.
Candidates have reportedly already lined up for her position at 2GB, with Deb’s understudy Joe Hildebrand and fellow 2GB presenter Mark Levy topping the list.
