Post-apocalyptic action game Death stranding has amassed 19 million players since its release five years ago, creator Hideo Kojima said. Friday, the fifth anniversary of Death strandingFollowing the original PlayStation 4 release, Kojima released a video on social media platform
“It’s been (five) years since its release, and (three) years since (Death Stranding: Director’s Cut), I believe,” Kojima said in a video while standing next to a lifelike sculpture of Sam Porter Bridges, the protagonist of Death stranding. “You all have continued to play for so long, and I am very grateful for that.”
In addition, Kojima also mentioned the continued progress in the development of the game’s upcoming sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the beachwhich at the time of writing will be released sometime in 2025. “We are currently working on Death Stranding 2,” Kojima said. “As I mentioned on my social media, this is currently the most critical phase in which we are building the game. I have a good feeling about it now and I am confident that it will be a job well done.”
Death Stranding: Director’s Cutwas dropped on Xbox Series X earlier this week on Thursday, alongside a new cloud streaming version for Amazon’s Luna platform. As reported in an article from Japanese outlet Automaton on Thursday, Kojima Productions now owns the intellectual property of the franchise, which will continue with Death Stranding 2: On the beach in 2025. A film adaptation of Death strandingco-produced by Kojima Productions and film studio A24, is also currently in production.
2025 will be a big year for Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions, culminating in the eventual release of Death stranding 2 in addition to the studio’s ongoing work on the horror game O.D with Xbox Game Studios and the action spy game Doctor with Sony.
