Death Stranding 2: On the beach? Yep, that’s what they really call it

Kojima Productions founder and game director Hideo Kojima appeared at Sony’s 2024 State of Play showcase on Wednesday to reveal new details about the upcoming PlayStation 5 sequel to Death stranding. First and foremost, it’s worth noting that the full title of the Death stranding will be a follow-up Death Stranding 2: On the beach.

That’s only slightly unusual, considering the prominent role of beaches (and Beached Things) in the original Death stranding. But it is certainly a choice. A very Hideo Kojima choice.

A long trailer for it Death Stranding 2: On the beach went into more detail about what’s new in the sequel. As the main cast returns, they are joined by newcomers, including a new character played by Crazy Max director George Miller, and a small, sentient doll played by Head-up director Fatih Akin. There’s an epic battle between Higgs – who fights with an electrified guitar – and a… Lou/BB-28-possessed mech warrior? I’m still wrapping my head around it. With a length of almost 10 minutes, there is the new trailer for it Death stranding 2 has a lot to chew on, and the On the beach part of the title is probably the least strange part.

Death stranding 2 is intended for PS5, but has no release date. The sequel sees the return of Léa Seydoux as Fragile, with Norman Reedus returning as Sam Bridges and Troy Baker reprising his role as Higgs. New to the cast are actors Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna.

Kojima Productions currently has a full slate of Death stranding 2the horror game O.Dand a film adaptation of Death strandingwhich is produced by A24.
