Deadpool and Wolverine‘s first trailer dropped on Sunday during Super Bowl LVIII with our first look at Wade Wilson’s journey to officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But one thing about the trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine was confusing at first: it wasn’t Deadpool’s fiancé Vanessa killed at the latter? That was a big plot point. And wasn’t X-Force member Shatterstar killed too? And yes, Peter died too!
Yes, they were all murdered Deadpool 2. And unless you remember the details of Deadpool 2In the mid-credits scene, it may not be clear how Vanessa and other characters live Deadpool and Wolverine. But if you Doing to remind Deadpool 2‘s mid-credits scene, then you’ll understand why the Time Variance Authority (TVA) shows up at Wade’s apartment, pruning sticks at the ready.
At the end of Deadpool 2Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio – who return Deadpool and Wolverine — fix the time travel device that allowed Cable to travel back in time to pursue Firefist/Russell (Julian Dennison). Wade then uses Cable’s time machine to intervene in earlier events in the film, preventing Vanessa’s death and ensuring that Peter (Rob Delaney’s character) survived X-Force’s gruesome debut. Remember, almost every member of Deadpool’s X-Force team died after jumping out of a plane; Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) was mashed by a helicopter and Peter was killed by being covered in Zeitgeist’s (Bill Skarsgård) acidic spit.
Apparently, Wade saved more than just Vanessa and Peter. Maybe everything from X-Force is fine? Fingers crossed for Terry Crews’ Bedlam!
In addition to saving his deceased loved ones, Wade also carries out two mercy killings during the war Deadpool 2‘s mid-credits: shooting the original Deadpool out X-Men Origin: Wolverine in the head, and did the same favor to Mint Mobile spokesperson Ryan Reynolds, moments after reading the script for Green Lantern. Those are less plot-relevant than funny bits.
Wade’s time travel explains why the TVA is after Deadpool in his new movie. He tampered with the timeline and is apparently going to spend some of it Deadpool and Wolverine clearing rogue timelines, or just hanging out in the Void Lokirunning into old X-friends and dodging the purple gas cloud of death, Alioth.
Deadpool and Wolverine comes to theaters on July 26. There’s plenty of time to catch up on Disney Plus series Loki if you haven’t already, because that sounds pretty important for Deadpool’s future.
