‘Dead people should be able to change their gender’, says Labour MP Charlotte Nichols as growth of gender ideology is slammed as ‘patently absurd’
- MP suggested that the deceased should be legally remembered by their chosen gender
Labor MP Charlotte Nichols has suggested dead people should be able to change their gender – as the growth of gender ideology is branded ‘patently absurd’.
Ms Nichols, MP for Warrington North, asked whether the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) 2004 could be amended ‘so that deceased transgender people can be legally remembered by the gender they lived as’.
In response to the MP’s written question to Parliament last month, Equality Minister Stuart Andrew said the Government has no plans to make any further changes to the law.
“If a person used their new gender at an organization before their death, and that was in their personal information, we would expect that the organization would contact their family members using the new gender,” he said.
Mr Andrew reportedly explained that these ‘organisations could include the NHS’ – with his response raising fears that self-identification could become ‘normalised’ within the NHS.

Speaking about the recent developments in gender ideology, Sir Liam Fox, MP for North Somerset, said: ‘It is patently absurd, factually incorrect and a statistical distortion.
“We should not encourage the idea that people can simply choose to change their biological status, nor should we bend the truth to suit an increasingly extreme and dangerous ideology.”
Lucy Marsh, spokesperson for The Family Education Trust, said: ‘It is extremely worrying that Labor appears to be pushing for gender self-ID to be introduced through the back door.
‘If coroners are allowed to lie publicly about the gender of deceased children, this will certainly be a slippery slope towards the normalization of self-identification within the NHS.’
Mrs. Nichols told it The Telegraph: ‘My question arises from a recent petition, supported by many of my constituents, about amending the Gender Recognition Act.
‘The genesis of the petition was the murder of my constituency’s Brianna Ghey, whose life was brutally cut short before she was old enough to receive formal legal recognition of who she was and how she will be remembered by her family, friends and our community. ‘
