Dead in daylight already has a massive roster of original characters and horror legends from other franchises, including Resident Evil, Silent Hill, The Ring, Stranger Things, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Dungeons & Dragons, and the recently released Castlevania crossover. But an upcoming collaboration will add an even more unexpected pop culture character to the mix. Behaviour Interactive announced on Monday that we can expect a Five Nights at Freddy’s crossover coming in the summer of 2025.
In Dead in daylightFive players compete in a match. Four play Survivors, who are helpless and unarmed, but tasked with powering generators and escaping the killing grounds. They are relentlessly hunted by a Killer, who has a variety of deadly powers at his disposal. It’s easy to see how the murderous animatronics that staff Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza would fit into this formula.
The Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise has grown to include a wide range of games, novels, and even a film adaptation. It’s unclear how much content Behaviour will use for this collaboration; some updates will simply add a Killer or a Survivor, while a full chapter will include a Killer, a Survivor, and a new map. With such a wide library of games, it will be interesting to see what Behaviour uses as inspiration for the Killer and his abilities.
Dead in daylight also allows the Killers to complete a number of gory animations. Each Killer has their own “Momento Mori” scene, where they show themselves personally taking out a hapless Survivor. I’m already getting nervous thinking about what it would look like if Freddy Fazbear killed someone with his bear hands. Thankfully, I don’t have to worry about that haunting my dreams for another year or so.
