‘But what else happens in your WhatsApp groups, during your girls’ nights, during your lunches, that’s what holds you back almost constantly.

‘It’s a different kind of conversation. I can’t imagine a day without contact with them.

‘It almost seems like an addiction. It’s so beautiful.’

Recalling a time with one of her best friends, she said: ‘Louise, she’s like my ride or die, she’s the one who lives in Australia, and we met when we were 19 at university in Liverpool and she was going to school had gone with the guys I lived with and so she came over on the weekends and we just completely fell in love with each other.

“When she told me she was engaged, I hung up.

‘Yes, it’s like I’ve been shot. I was like, OK, great. And I just hung up and I remember standing in my kitchen and thinking it was a terrible thing to do.

‘I just thought that life as I know it will never be the same again. I’ve lost her.

“After about 10 minutes I called her back, I’m really sorry, I’m so happy for you.

“A few months later I got engaged, called her and she hung up on me.

In September she revealed that they had recently decided to return to Britain with their two sons after living in the United States for 16 years.

Dawn admitted at the time that gun culture in America is “terrifying” and that she was beginning to find living with young children “really disturbing.”

“I cannot deny that the fear of America became unbearable for me personally,” she said.

“The gun thing is really scary and very real in the schools.

“One of the school moms once said to me, ‘You know, when your kid goes out to play, you should call and say, ‘Do you have a gun in the house?’ ‘. And I thought: I don’t want this. I don’t want to call and I don’t want anyone to ask me that question.’
