Iconic duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders have reunited for a new M&S Food Christmas ad 2022, which sees the characters Fairy and Duckie get into the festive spirit.
Despite only being November 1, the new ad shows Dawn’s character, Fairy, who goes on a hunt for a new celebratory friend.
She flies through the Christmas tree looking at possible options but is met by a nutcracker and a lobster ball and they just won’t do it.
They’re back! Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders have reunited for an M&S Christmas ad as characters Fairy and Duckie – months after they said there are ‘no plans’ for their famous show to return
Icons: French and Saunders, 63, started working together when they met in their early twenties in 1978, with their eponymous sketch show first broadcast on BBC Two in 1987 (pictured in 2016)
So, thinking outside the box, she sprinkles some of her magic on the toy dog, Duckie, who is voiced by Jennifer, 64.
There’s trouble, though, when Duckie tells Fairy that she’s falling apart because she’s starting to lose some of her stuffing.
But Fairy comes up with a plan to make sure Duckie is filled with Christmas cheer instead.
But just when everything seems to be going well, the family dog comes in and chases Duckie around the room, causing her to run away.

GLUG! And they also get a little M&S drink to enjoy
Then comes one last treat from Fairy who throws some more magic into the room, filling a table with a tasty looking feast.
Surrounded by turkey, pigs in blankets and cheese, Fairy said, “We’re going to have the best Christmas ever.”
But as that pesky dog barks at Ducky, she quickly replies, “Yeah, but I think I might celebrate it here on the dresser, if that’s all right.”
The ad comes months after Dawn, 65, said there were “no plans” for a return of the show French And Saunders.
Moving on: In February, Dawn revealed there are ‘no plans’ for French and Saunders’ return on an episode of The Graham Norton Show
She told Graham Norton in February: I think the time for the sketch show is over, but Jen and I are like kids when we get together and have a lot of fun thinking about it – people like Line of Duty, Killing Eve and The Crown are just begging for it!’
French and Saunders started working together when they met when they were in their early twenties in 1978, with their eponymous sketch show first broadcast on BBC Two in 1987.
In total it ran for six full series, in addition to a host of Christmas specials and compilation episodes, the most recent of which was 300 Years of French and Saunders – which aired on Christmas Day in 2017.
Throwback: The actress, 65, said “the time for the sketch show is over” (Dawn and Jennifer pictured on the show in 1987)
