Dawn French gives a glimpse at her stunning Cornwall home

Dawn French gave a glimpse of her gorgeous seaside home with grand interiors on Wednesday.

The 65-year-old actress Vicar of Dibley paid nearly £2 million for the property on the Devon/Cornwall border.

It came after she sold her beloved Fowey home for £6.6 million in 2021 – triple what she bought it for in 2006.

On Instagram, she showed off her new writing room with huge windows, a large desk, a chandelier and pink walls.

It also featured dark wood furniture, a huge cream carpet and a pink sofa, as well as fantastic views over the countryside.

Expensive: The Vicar of Dibley actress, 65, paid nearly £2 million for the property on the Devon-Cornwall border

She wrote in the caption, “I made a beautiful room to write in, and now I can’t stop looking at the room and the view instead of writing…..#twat @annastandish.interiors.”

Dawn raved about her idyllic life for 15 years in a harborside house in the Cornish harbor town of Fowey.

But after deciding the city had gotten “too cool and trendy,” Dawn French decided it was time to sell in 2021.

Her new home is a beautiful Victorian villa in a quiet and secluded village elsewhere in Cornwall.

The comedienne and her husband, Mark Bignell, 58, made the decision to move to the Cornish/Devon border, overlooking the water.

With its narrow lanes, boutique style shops and characterful pubs, the village is reminiscent of her beloved Fowey.

But it’s crucial that the place remains off the beaten track, allowing Miss French to avoid the crowds that flood Fowey in the summer months.

The star and her husband bought a secluded five-bedroom house in the village, which offered a lot of peace and privacy.

Al fresco delights: Overlooking the harbour, Dawn was also able to take advantage of the abundant West Country sunshine, with an expansive alfresco dining area

The house, set in three acres of grounds, retains many of its original features, including a stained glass window and tiled floors.

In addition to the main house, the property has an annex with its own bedroom, kitchen, living room and shower room, which was used as an Airbnb rental by the previous owners.

There is also a separate coach house with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen, as well as a private garden and parking space.

The extensive grounds include a Victorian greenhouse, a shed, two meadows and a vegetable and fruit garden.

Miss French married therapist Mr Bignell in 2013, three years after separating from 62-year-old Lenny Henry after 25 years of marriage.

Dawn made a mouthwatering profit after selling her beautiful Cornish mansion to one of Britain’s leading biotech businessmen for £6.6 million – triple what she bought it for in 2006.

Dawn bought the property for £2.3m but walked away with a sizable £4.3m profit in 2021.

Although it was previously reported that Dawn had sold the historic three-storey Point Neptune House, which overlooks the harbor in Fowey, Cornwall, because the area was becoming ‘too cool and trendy’, details of the price and buyer were not announced.

Land Registry documents later revealed the hefty sale price and that the new owner was Professor Sir Christopher Evans OBE, who is estimated to be worth £208 million and made his fortune by setting up and running a number of life sciences companies. In 2001 he was knighted.

The star moved into the listed building in 2006 with her then-husband Sir Lenny and their daughter Billie.

The couple divorced in 2010.

In 2013, she married therapist Mark Bignell in the coastal town of Mawgan Porth, but continued to live in the house with her new husband and Billie.

Point Neptune House had huge arched windows and beautiful sea views.

The property was widely regarded as one of the most desirable homes in the city, but it is clearly visible to the growing hordes of tourists who flock there, which is also what kept Dawn from living there.

Say it with flowers: A predominant theme in Dawn’s snaps of her previous home was her love of fresh flowers adorning the property

Big move: Dawn, who starred as Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley, moved into the listed building in 2006 with her then-husband Lenny Henry and their daughter Billie. The couple divorced in 2010

Insider: After reports came out that she was planning to sell Point Neptune House, a source revealed: ‘Yes, Dawn is selling, but she’s very much staying in Cornwall’

After reports came out that she was planning to sell Point Neptune House, a source revealed: ‘Yes, Dawn is selling, but she’s very much staying in Cornwall. She just wanted a change.

“The dawn is inconspicuous. The fact that Fowey has recently become cool and trendy doesn’t necessarily appeal to her.

‘In the summer it can be very busy now. Dawn will always love Fowey and spent 15 wonderful years there.

“She will miss all the locals who made her feel so welcome.”
