Dawn French, 65, says she embraces her flaws and is not into ‘filters and perfect’: ‘I’ve gotten to the age where I just think I can’t do that’
Dawn French has revealed that she embraces her flaws and is “not in filters and she’s perfect”.
The comedian, 65, appeared on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X and expressed her frustration at trying to live like you’re ‘perfect’.
She said: ‘Nobody’s perfect, right? I don’t know why we tried to pretend that we were…
“We all know we can’t achieve it, but somehow we try to live our lives to be perfect and then we feel like we’ve failed, and I’ve come to an age now where I just don’t think I can, and I actually do.” ‘I have no desire to do it.’
Dawn said her favorite types of people are those who are honest about their flaws and don’t try to pretend that everything in their life is fine.

She added: ‘Don’t you love your friends the most who come up to you and say, “Yesterday I did this terrible thing. I said such and such a thing and I said…”
‘Whatever is that fake couple? I love people who tell me those things, my favorite thing is that people with flaws own their flaws, that’s how you connect with people.
“I don’t like filters and perfection and I don’t want my daughter to feel like she has to be like that.”
“The minute I started thinking about all the mistakes I’ve made and all the stupid times I’ve been, as you say, stupid, I thought, ‘Oh, it’s a tsunami.’ I’m mostly made of it.’
Dawn is the mother of daughter Billie (32) from her marriage to Lenny Henry, from whom she separated in 2010.
It comes after Dawn reflected on the sudden end of her BBC hit French And Saunders.
The actress wrote and starred in the sketch show with best friend Jennifer Saunders for six series, but in 2004 the duo called it quits, shocking fans.
Writing in her new book The Twat Files, Dawn recalls that the ‘breaking point’ came during a sketch with pop star Anastasia.

Dawn and Jennifer filmed a scene in the toilets of the BBC building, with Dawn seen describing her fantasy of Anastasia hearing her sing and inviting her to come on Top of the Pops with her.
Anastasia acts in a skit, eavesdropping on the conversation. Cut to Dawn in the signature look of the cowgirl pop star who sings with the TOTP star.
Dawn writes in her new book The Twat Files that seeing herself in the costume was the moment she decided to leave the show. “Honestly, I’ve never felt so ugly.” I have often willingly, happily been ‘ugly’ for hundreds of sketches.
“I never minded how something looked, as long as it served the joke well.” The mirror told me clearly why this is so painfully disgusting.’
‘Because the joke was on me.’

After she finished filming for the day, Dawn says she “burst into hot, angry tears. I duly sobbed the entire 28 miles home before calling Jennifer and telling her she wanted to end their show.
Speaking with TimesDawn insisted her best friend didn’t try to dissuade her, explaining: ‘Jennifer would never fight me in something that big.
‘She’s now saying, ‘What the hell were you thinking? We could have easily fixed that.’ But that wasn’t a problem.’
As for herself, she has never regretted her decision and added: ‘I think it’s time to move on to another chapter, and you need to know when that’s going to happen.’
French and Saunders began working together when they met in their early twenties in 1978, and their eponymous sketch show first aired on BBC Two in 1987.
