Davina McCall has revealed that using heroin felt like “coming home” as she recalled abusing drugs on Wednesday.
The 54-year-old TV presenter opened up about her childhood trauma, substance abuse and her inspiring story of recovery on Rockwater is in conversation with podcast, as she explains how she was abandoned by her mother at the age of three.
Davina’s interview came as she also showed off her impressive physique in a skintight crop top and matching leggings as she took to Instagram to share a clip from her latest workout.

Having tried heroin for the first time at age 15, Davina reflected on the sense of false comfort the substance gave her, revealing that using it was ‘like coming home’.
“When you’re at it, nothing else matters, so you don’t mind meeting someone on time or picking up your kids from school, luckily I didn’t have any.”
After driving away loved ones and losing everything to prioritize her drug use, she said, “Heroin became my best friend.” It’s like the biggest, warmest, softest hug.

After ten years of substance abuse, Davina received help through the intervention of a friend.
He began attending ongoing NA meetings and therapy sessions, and later got sober.
Davina kindly credits Pippy: “I was told to get help because I was falling asleep at dinner, they locked me in the car and told me to get help. It’s the reason I’m still alive.

The TV star, who shares Holly, 19, Tilly, 17 and Chester, 14, with her ex Matthew Robertson, previously credited her ex-boyfriend Eric with helping her overcome her drug addiction.
She previously explained that as a recovering teetotaler, she doesn’t even like taking over-the-counter tablets for headaches, so she avoided taking the medical route.
Davina recounted how she exercised and took herbal remedies to help, but these didn’t ‘cut it’, she recounted how she planned to ‘fight’ it before finally educating herself about menopause, with a private gynecologist who eventually prescribed HRT.

The presenter reflected on feeling “insecure and unstable” after her mother – who died in 2008 – told her that she was going on vacation for two weeks, but did not return and left her with her paternal grandmother when she was only four years old.
In an interview with DJ Fat Tony on his show The Recovery, the host admitted she was “saying goodbye to my brain cells” when she used substances like heroin, speed and weed as a teenager, before seeking help more than 20 years ago.
