David Seaman has laughed off Jamie Carragher’s criticism of Arsenal’s celebrations after their 3-1 win against title rivals Liverpool. He claimed Sky Sport’s comments made him chuckle.
The former Gunners goalkeeper added that the team had the right to celebrate the ‘huge result’ after Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard all scored to help Arsenal come within two points of Jurgen Klopp’s side at the top to get out of the Premier League.
It was the Gunners’ third win on the bounce and they celebrated the triumph full-time. Martin Odegaard was seen borrowing a camera from club photographer Stuart MacFarlane during Sky Sports’ coverage before the Arsenal midfielder took several pictures of the cameraman and fans in the Emirates.
His celebrations infuriated Carragher, who said during live coverage of the match: ‘Just go into the tunnel. You won a game, three points, you’ve been brilliant. Back in the title race, enter the tunnel. I honestly mean it.”
Several other members of the football world have hit back at Carragher’s comments, including Ian Wright and Jan Aage Fjortoft, with Seaman now claiming the rant had made him laugh.

Speaking about the Zeeman says podcast, the former goalkeeper said: “I had a bit of a chuckle last night listening to Jamie Carragher having a go at Odegaard and the photographer. I’m like, “Oh, did you just get lost Jamie?!
‘I thought, “Oh my God, so you’ve never celebrated it?!”, and Stuart (MacFarlane), the photographer, has been there since I was there. He’s been there since day one and everyone loves Stuart. He is so passionate about Arsenal.
‘He knows everything about Arsenal, loves everything about Arsenal and I like that. I love that little interaction because Stuart wanted to do his part with all the fans behind him and all the fans stayed behind.
‘It was a good day for Arsenal, a very good day. “I can’t fault Mikel Arteta and the boys for celebrating how they did because it was a huge result for Arsenal.”
After the match, Carragher continued to rage on social media about the incident, clashing with Fjortoft on X (formerly Twitter) after posting a video of the Norwegian midfielder posing with the camera. He captioned the video: “Most of all, enjoy it, but enjoy it by being disciplined!”
Fjortoft, meanwhile, didn’t see the funny side of Carragher’s joke and wrote in response: ‘Come on @Carra23. Let Martin show his passion! Also on the field. Give him this moment with his friends at Arsenal like @Stuart_PhotoAFC.’
Wright was also furious at the reaction to the Gunners’ celebration, writing on X: ‘You can all take the p**s if it doesn’t happen like you normally do. Leave us alone.’
Jan Aage Fjortoft responded to Carragher’s tweet and wrote: ‘Football could use more people expressing their love for the game’
But the ex-Liverpool defender hit back at the former Sheffield United striker, saying: ‘It’s a joke about a Neil Warnock quote, FFS!’

The celebrations continued into the dressing room, with Arsenal now two points clear of Liverpool, who sit at the top of the Premier League
Even Odegaard has responded to Carragher’s mocking comments. Asked whether it was possible that the Gunners had celebrated the victory too much, the Norwegian said: ‘No, I think anyone who loves football, who understands football, knows how much it means to win this game.
‘And if you can’t celebrate when you win a match, when can you celebrate? We are happy with the victory and remain humble.
Arsenal have now won all three of their last Premier League matches, with Mikel Arteta’s side correcting course after a dip in form that saw them lose in the league to West Ham and Fulham before being knocked out of the FA Cup by Liverpool.
Seaman, who won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups with Arsenal, echoed the midfielder’s comments and re-emphasized the gravity of the win, before kicking off the celebration of the team’s relief at securing victory.
‘Liverpool weren’t there, but don’t take anything away from Arsenal because the way they started the game was brilliant.

Arsenal manager Arteta was overcome with emotion after the final whistle on Sunday
‘I loved the passion. A lot has been said about Mikel Arteta and the way we celebrated. I loved that.
‘It’s a bit on the edge, if I’m honest. You know how I am: calm down, accept it! (laughs) – but that’s because of what was in the game.
‘Arsenal lose that match and we are out of the title race. We’re eight points behind Liverpool and Manchester City have two games in hand, so that would have been devastating.
‘I think that celebration came from the pressure of knowing what could happen if we were defeated. The relief, that’s what it is.’
