AFL legend David Schwarz reveals the F-bomb spray his mum gave Eddie McGuire after he and Sam Newman shocked viewers in the most controversial Footy Show moment ever

Former Melbourne star David Schwarz has revealed the scathing spray his mother directed at Football Show presenter Eddie McGuire after he attacked Sam Newman in retaliation for an infamous incident on live TV.

Schwarz was given a cream pie in the face by Newman in 2001 as punishment for his disappointing performance in his 150th AFL game.

The soccer star reacted angrily, punched Newman in the chest and sent him flying across the field.

The prank was one of the most controversial moments on The Footy Show and Schwarz has now revealed that his mother called McGuire and gave him both barrels in an exchange so crude it cannot be printed in its entirety.

“When it all happened, you go to a commercial break and they clean the cake, and it was a lemon meringue pie, because I couldn’t see it,” Schwarz told the Inspirational sports stories with Tim Gossage podcasting.

Sam had hurt his back [when I pushed him] so he had a hernia in his back and was in trouble, Ed was freaking out because he was a control freak and (fellow panelists) Chris Tarrant and Spida Everitt were sitting there thinking, what the hell has happened?

‘At the end of the show, the producer comes out and says, Ed, Mary Schwarz is on the phone. My mother worked for the Victoria Police and as a single mother and what she’s been through, she’s as tough as old desert boots.

‘Apparently the phone call went like this: She said: “Ed, you have no idea who you just f**ked with. You’re from Broadmeadows, we’re from Sunbury, we’re going to smash your f**king head in.

‘We want an apology on the front page of the Herald Sun, we want an apology from Channel Nine News and if we don’t do that, [get it]look after’.

Schwarz said McGuire offered his angry mother a vacation to calm her down

‘Ed goes, just sit down quietly, Mary. [She says] “We’re coming to get you, what you did to my son is a disgrace.”

And Ed said, “Mary, I have a trip for two to Bali, if you’re interested.”

“So my mother got a trip for two to Bali and she gave in like you couldn’t believe it. Never got an apology, never got any of that.”

In 2020, Sam Newman claimed that Schwarz knew the whole prank was a set-up and that he has been profiting from it ever since.

“People were ultimately hesitant to come because they thought if I’m going to throw a pie in the face of someone like David Schwarz, why would we send our players out to have that happen to them,” Newman said on the Sacked: Showbiz podcast.

‘I enjoyed all that, but it was definitely organized and I think David benefited a little bit from it. And to be honest, I’m not going to trample on him.
