David Moyes insists he wants to stay in management as he prepares to leave West Ham… as head coach gears up for a London Stadium send-off this afternoon
David Moyes has insisted he wants to stay in management after his departure from West Ham was confirmed earlier this week.
Moyes, 61, will leave the Hammers at the end of the season after four-and-a-half years in charge, with former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui set to replace him.
The Scot will work as a pundit for the BBC and talkSPORT during this summer’s European Championship, but says he would like to return to the dugout after a short break.
“Yes would be the answer to that,” Moyes said when asked if he wanted to return to coaching.
“First and foremost, there would be a break. Last year we won the [UEFA Conference League] final on June 7th and we came back on July 1st to go to Australia [for pre-season]. We had three weeks off.

“If you look at the number of games we have played in recent years and the little time we have had as a break… I strive to work as hard as I can at every club and I have tried. to do the same at West Ham. Many hours and efforts have been put into it.
“So I’m going to take a break. But I’m looking forward to working for the BBC and Talksport in the Euros, and working for UEFA. I really want to stay involved in football. I really like football.
‘I hope I can give a lot back to younger managers. I am interested in coaching training, I would like to work on the coaching side, I am involved in the LMA [League Managers Association]. There are many things I can hopefully choose later in life. But I’m not quite sure I want to give up my whistle and my stopwatch yet.’
West Ham fans will get the chance to say goodbye to Moyes on Saturday afternoon in their final home game of the season against Luton, but the manager insisted he is not worried about a big farewell.

‘To be honest, it’s not my style. I don’t mean that in a bad way. I think behind all this I’m quite shy.
‘I’m grateful for the praise and I’m grateful for the support I’ve always had. Maybe the club thinks it’s right from their point of view.’
