Jarrod Bowen is on his way to a West Ham statue, according to David Moyes, who gave a positive update on Friday on his two strikers whose knees were injured during the international break.

Bowen faces a late fitness test for Burnley on Saturday after leaving the England camp early, while Moyes said Michail Antonio should be sidelined for just two weeks following his withdrawal from Jamaica.

Bowen won a new seven-year contract after scoring the winner in West Ham’s Europa Conference League win in June. Moyes thinks he is well on his way to becoming a club legend, if he wasn’t already one before that historic goal in Prague.

“He has taken the lead here,” Moyes said of the 26-year-old who has scored in all six of West Ham’s Premier League away games this season. ‘He will always be remembered for that goal, no matter what happens.

‘If he stays here for another seven years, hopefully by the end he will have a statue for the goals he scores here. If he can continue to do as well as he is doing now, why wouldn’t he look forward to becoming a legend at this club?

‘There are some incredible names associated with West Ham and he has a chance to become one, if he isn’t already. I urge him to keep his goals high and I want him to continue to be recognized by England.”

Bowen is aiming to become the first West Ham striker to score more than 20 goals in all competitions since Marlon Harewood in 2004-05. He is being transformed from winger to striker, but if Moyes is unavailable on Saturday, Moyes may have to hand Danny Ings his first Premier League start of the season against his former club.
