David Moyes admits West Ham could plunge into the January transfer market in a bid to escape relegation scrap, despite being the THIRD biggest spender in Europe last summer after spending £160M

David Moyes admits that West Ham could make moves in the January transfer window in a bid to escape relegation woes.

Moyes had previously insisted that January would not be a busy time after the club spent £160m on the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Lucas Paquetá and Gianluca Scamacca over the summer.

But, with the Hammers dangerously close to the relegation zone, Moyes may have had to rethink.

David Moyes is under pressure and admitted that the club could look for additions this January window

The Hammers are yet to win a game since returning to action after the World Cup break.

“We might try to do some business if we can,” Moyes said. “But in the end the club spent a lot of money in the summer and we brought a lot of players.

‘And ideally we’re not trying to bring in as many players. We brought a lot this summer and we are still trying to integrate them and get used to the Premier League.

“But we may have to, depending on how we think the situation is.”

The likes of Lucas Paquetá (pictured) were hired last summer at great expense following the Europa League run

West Ham snapped a five-match losing streak in the Premier League when they grabbed a point from a 2-2 draw at Leeds on Wednesday night.

His poor form has put Moyes’ position in the spotlight and the Scotsman admits that the performances have not been up to the mark.

“We’ve been a bit slow on some things that we’re doing, which has disappointed me,” he added.

“But I think some parts of our game have been very good. But we haven’t been able to convert the chances. And sometimes you need things to go your way, sometimes you need someone to call a shout, which changes things from time to time.

Gianluca Scamacca and Nayef Aguerd were two players signed for a significant amount of money. Moyes has so far struggled to pull off the tone for summer arrivals.

“While last year, we maybe scored a goal from a set piece, we haven’t been doing it as often.

So far, we have conceded a couple of very botched goals from my point of view, which is not like us. I need to try to eradicate that right now as well.”

West Ham head to Brentford in the FA Cup on Saturday looking to avenge a 2-0 league defeat at London Stadium last week.
